Darrell Dimmick Obituary

Darrell L. Dimmick
EAST PEORIA - Darrell Lynn Dimmick, 57, of Chicago for the past twenty-five years, formerly of East Peoria, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, July 30, 2017.
He was born on June 28, 1960, in Peoria, IL, the son of Wayne B. and Gloria L. (Chapman) Dimmick.
He is survived by his mother of Peoria; and siblings, Deborah K. Smith of Kingston, Ontario, Canada, and Rodney B. Dimmick of St. Louis, MO. In addition, three nephews, a niece, five cousins and other extended family survive him.
His father and grandparents, Blees and Martha Dimmick and Claude and Omega Chapman, all of Peoria, preceded him in death.
Darrell graduated from East Peoria Community High School in 1978. He excelled in mathematics and was a good student, played basketball and liked vintage cars. He was quite interested in statistics and often recorded stats while attending sporting events.
While still in high school, Darrell began working at J.C. Penney's Automotive Center at Northwoods Mall in Peoria. He worked there about 8 years, also attending Illinois Central College in East Peoria, and later transferred to Ferris State College in Michigan. Darrell graduated on May 23, 1987, with academic honors and distinction, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Television Production. He was then employed at Fel-Pro, Inc. in Skokie, IL, for a number of years, where he produced multimedia presentations for marketing and training purposes.
In later years, Darrell returned to his statistical interests and was self-employed as a Horse Racing Tips Sheet Producer for Wabash Publishing in Chicago. This he continued for many years to the present, working from his home.
Darrell was a kind, friendly, positive person with a good sense of humor and hearty laugh, who expected and required little from others. He enjoyed good food and cooking, as well a beautiful view of Lake Michigan from his high-rise apartment windows. Darrell was a loving son, brother and uncle, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Lutheran Hillside Village Chapel, 6901 N. Galena Road, Peoria on Saturday, August 12, at 2 p.m. A light reception will follow in the Galena Room at the same address.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Methodist Church of Peoria, 116 N.E. Perry Ave., Peoria, IL 61603, www.fumcpeoria.org, or the charity of your choice.

Darrell was my next door neighbor for the last five years. He was a gentleman who never said anything ill of anyone. He was compassionate and respectful. And, he had a great sense of humor. I'm going to miss him.
