CHILLICOTHE - David E. Gaskins, 75, of Chillicothe, Ill., died at 5:35 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at his residence.
He was born Wednesday, Aug. 24, 1932, in Woodlawn, Ill., a son of Howard and Lucile (Punneo) Gaskins. He married Arletta Carroll on Sept. 2, 1950. She survives.
Surviving are two sons, Donald (Teresa) Gaskins of Florida and Fred (Lori) Gaskins of Chillicothe, Ill.; one daughter, Karen (Randy) Goodwin of Chillicothe; seven grandchildren, Brian (Jessica) Hurt, Ashley (Eric) Zborowski and Amber, Bess, Kaely, Lindsay and Kelsey Gaskins; two great-grandchildren, Bodhi Hurt and Emma Zborowski; two sisters, Marion Piccioni of California and Eileen (Melvin) Bushong of Centralia, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Charles E. Gaskins; two brothers; and one sister.
He was a member of the Chillicothe Christian Church, George Washington Masonic Lodge 222, Peoria Casting Club and the American Legion Post 9, all of Chillicothe. He was also a member of Amvets, Scottish Rite Valley of Peoria, Mohammed Temple and the 40/8 Club.
He worked for Caterpillar as a tool designer for 30 years.
Friends will be received at the Weber-Hurd Funeral Home, Chillicothe, from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight, Sept. 30, 2007, with Masonic rites at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Chillicothe Christian Church on Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Robert Hentrich officiating. Interment will follow in the Chillicothe City Cemetery, Chillicothe, Ill., with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 9 and the VFW Post 4999.
Contributions may be made to the Chillicothe Christian Church Building Fund, Rescue 33 or the American Cancer Society.
