David Hummels Obituary
PEORIA - David E. Hummels, 74, of Peoria passed away on Monday, March 9, 2020, at Grand View Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Peoria.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2020, at Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue, Peoria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria, with military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps.
Dave was born on October 22, 1945, in Peoria, a son of George and Jean (Hopkins) Hummels. He married Rose Schneider in 1977. She preceded him in death in 2008.
He is survived by his children, Dina Hummels of Carbondale, David Hummels of Chicago and Daniel Hummels of Peoria; siblings, Steve Hummels of Miami and Becky Hummels of Nevada; sister-in-law, Kathy Marsh of Peoria; and grandchildren, Nate, Autumn and Nolan.
Dave proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He then served the Peoria community as a Peoria Police Officer for thirty years, retiring in 2001.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dave's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.

We are sorry to hear of Dave's passing. It seems like only a few days ago at Kroger's in Bartonville one day.
I always enjoyed working and speaking with Dave.
May he rest in peace and may God bless his family and loved ones.

Please accept our prayers and condolences. I was fortunate to be able to work with Dave most of my career. He was a patriot and dedicated police officer. He was direct and to say the least did not mind challenging questionable decisions. Besides good police work my favorite memory of Dave was him coming in the back door of the police station. I noticed his holster was unsnapped. I gave Dave a heads up and he stopped, looked sideways at me and said, " I know, it's more dangerous inside the station." To Dave's family thank you for the many sacrifices you made so Dave could serve his country and city.

Dave and I worked together for many years at the Peoria Police Department. He was very genuine and dedicated to the Department and to the Marine Corps.

David was just a super guy. He lived just up the street from me many moons ago and we were both in law enforcement so we had some common interests. Always enjoyed his company and conversation. He was the kind of man that once you meet him you never forget him. He will be missed by many. To his family, I am sorry for your loss but please try to imagine the glory he is experiencing in the arms of our Heavenly Father.

Dave was my cousin.
He was a good man with a droll sense of humor.
His integrity was unforgettable.
When I taught journalism at Illinois Central College, he shared his experiences as a Peoria policeman and a Vietnam veteran with my classes.
We who knew him will strive to keep all that was good in him alive in us.
