WASHINGTON - Everett W. Russell, 84, of Washington, Ill., died at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010, at his home.
Born on Nov. 14, 1926, to Harry G. and Nellie M. Kimble, he married Rosalie H. Murphy on Feb. 14, 1947, at First United Methodist Church in Peoria, Ill., and was married 63 years. She survives.
Also surviving are his daughter, Susan Russell (Robert Zerwekh) of Sycamore, Ill., and sons, Tom (Nancy) Russell and Joe (Cheryl) Russell, both of Washington, Ill., and Peter (Julie) Russell of Peoria, Ill. His grandchildren are Jonathan (Alison) Russell, Nathan Russell, Emily Russell and Reed Russell.
A graduate of Sparland High School, Everett worked for J.W. Bushell, J.A. Fritch and Son, and retired from Continental Grain. He was active in the Sheet Metal Workers Local 1, where he served as secretary for over 20 years.
Everett loved his church family at Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington, where he served as head usher and a trustee.
His interests were supporting Boy Scouts, fishing with the grandchildren, playing cards with friends, and lending a helping hand.
Everett was deeply rooted in family. He possessed a good work ethic, and his children are appreciative of his constant love and guidance during their childhood.
Always instrumental in helping his children accomplish their goals and dreams, he helped start Russell's Cycling and Fitness in the garage of the family home. Throughout the years that followed, Everett enjoyed many years helping out at the bicycle shop.
Services for Everett will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at Crossroads United Methodist Church. Pastor Tom Goddell will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at the church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Garden in rural Morton. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Crossroads Jr. and Sr. High Youth Ministry.
