EAST PEORIA - Frederick L. Knop, 87, of East Peoria passed away at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center emergency room.
Frederick was born on Mar. 4, 1927, in Mount Olive, Ill., to Frederick L. Jr. and Minnie (Niehaus) Knop. He married Joyce E. Garber on Nov. 29, 1958, in Peoria. She survives.
He also is survived by his son, Rick Knop of Chillicothe; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Loren (Emily) Knop of Chatham, Ill.
Frederick was a graduate of Bradley University, where he received his bachelor's degree in engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked at Caterpillar Inc. for many years, retiring in 1985.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, East Peoria. Pastor Fred Doughty will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, at the church. An additional visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded after services.
Wright & Salmon Mortuary is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to www.wrightandsalmon.com.

My sympathies to Fred's family. I have many remembrances of the times spent with Fred & other fraternity brothers at Bradley. His bowling ball had a special zip behind it that made the pin boys take notice. Fred was a special guy.
