EAST PEORIA - Jack Walter Gruebmeyer, 84, of East Peoria, formerly of Peoria, died at 10:29 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.
He was born April 13, 1929, in Peoria, a son of Walter A. and Dorothy A. (Ferleman) Gruebmeyer. He married Sylvia Grace Anderson on Sept. 10, 1950, in Peoria. She died April 7, 2004, in Peoria.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Janet Phillips.
Surviving are three children, Diane (Jim) Nutty of Sylva, N.C., Lisa (Jim) Frymire of Peoria and Mark Gruebmeyer of Peoria; four grandchildren, Erick Frymire of Fremont, Calif., Andrea Gruebmeyer of Chicago, Nicole Gruebmeyer of Englewood, Fla., and Dylan Gruebmeyer of Chicago; and one great-grandson.
Jack was a graduate of Peoria High and Bradley University.
He was employed by Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria for 45 years, last working in Service Development and retiring in 1995.
Jack was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Peoria. He served for many years as an usher and on the building committee of University United Methodist Church in Peoria. He was past member of the PTA at Rolling Acres School. He also was a past treasurer of the Central Illinois Jazz Society and a charter member of Sigma Chi fraternity at Bradley University.
Jack played in the Caterpillar Golf League in Peoria for many years. He loved boating and was active in volleyball and water volleyball.
He served on the residence association for Riverview Retirement Community in East Peoria.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria, where visitation will be one hour prior to service. The Rev. Dr. Randall Saxon will officiate. Interment will take place in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association.
