James Alwan Obituary
PEORIA - James M. Alwan, 93, of Peoria passed away on March 26, 2021, at home with his loving family by his side.
Born April 17, 1927, in Itoo, Lebanon, he was the son to Mason Alwan and Nabeha Slyman. He married Laurie M. Padwa on October 28, 1975, in Buffalo, NY. She preceded him in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Ramza (Douglas) Gangloff of East Peoria; grandson, Barrett Daniel Gangloff of East Peoria; brother, William (Sally) Alwan of Peoria; and sister, Laurice Alwan of Denver, CO; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph Alwan; and brother-in-law, Rizk S. Alwan.
Jim was always a hardworking man. He proudly founded Alwan's Market in 1953 and worked there until 1962. He continued his restaurant career as general manager of K.F.C. franchises. Later he then built and ran the restaurant Famous Southern Fried Chicken in Bartonville through the 1980's. After his retirement, Jim enjoyed his passion for gardening Lebanese Kousa and playing the stock market and lottery every day after that. He enjoyed spending as much time with his family and especially his beloved grandson.
Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church. Visitation will be Monday, March 29, 2021, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Wright and Salmon Mortuary with an additional visitation one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church. Fr. Patrick Henehan will officiate. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Mausoleum.
Memorials in Jim's honor may be made to St. Jude Parish.

Jimmy me gave me my first job in life. I worked for him at his grocery store on krause st. in the south end. He was a good guy. Went and seen him one time at the KFC store he ran also. May he R.I.P.
