I was saddened to learn of the recent passing of Jim. We went back a long way. I met Jim when we were both about 8 years old in the mid-1950's. His Mother, Faye, was a wonderful woman and my Mother's best friend. I have so many memories of going out to Agatucci's with the Vernon family, hearing about their enjoyable summer vacations in Minnesota, and spending so much time at their house that it felt like my second home. Though never attending the same schools, Jim and I more or less grew up together. He was so proud of his first Corvette and took care of it as the crown jewel it was. Jim was always a home town boy. Though toying briefly with going to Purdue University, he ultimately chose Bradley and had a wonderful educational experience there. Of course, following graduation, he went on to have an outstanding career at CILCO.
I hadn't seen Jim in many years. The last time I saw him was when out to dinner at Vonachen's Junction restaurant. (That should give you an idea how long it has been).
The backbone of a community is often strengthened by those who could easily have gone elsewhere but stayed and made a difference. Jim made a huge difference in Peoria. He will be sorely missed. My condolences go out to his daughter Emilie and her family.

I'm just in shock by this news, and saddened that I won't have another chance to discuss art with I'm at Fine Arts Society or at the Symphony. I got to know Jim through his work with the Peoria Riverfront Museum, and am so grateful for his commitment and passion for that project.

I am so sorry for your loss and extend my condolences to you and your family.
I had the privelege to work with Jim at CILCO. I initially met Jim when he was the Gas Engineering Manager at the Pioneer Park facility. I was a recent Computer Science graduate working in the Electric Engineering department and Jim was very professional and helpful to me. As Jim progressed in the company he remained the same common sense, friendly, respectful professional I met early in my career. Jim's desire to learn was evident as he was curious about what people thought and respectful of their input. I had the utmost respect for Jim. He will surely be missed!!

I am deeply saddened by the loss that you and your family have encountered. My condolences. Jim was a great man. I had the opportunity to be on a few Cilco sporting teams with him. My favorite memory was cheering him on during the Peoria Challenge cup competitions. I will keep your family in my prayers.

I had the opportunity to serve with Jim on the Methodist/Unity Point board . . . but prior to that we did enjoy various outdoor adventures - in particular, fishing in Canada. He was one of those rare people who could read the book and apply the science . . . very bright man! Sorry that he is "on the other side."

May God embrace you all during this most difficult time of loss.
Jim and I worked at CILCO and met right after he started! Oh I so remember his love of Emilie. We talked about our babies and he couldn't wait to get home after work to take her for a ride in her baby seat on the back of his bike! We always shared parenting and pride of our children through the years as we both retired in 1999! Jim was a great co-worker who treated everyone with humility and respect. So glad we have memories especially when we loose such a special guy!
