PEORIA - John M. Hubble, 95, a resident of West Peoria for over 50 years, passed away at 8:35 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at Rosewood Care Center of Peoria.
John was born on November 14, 1922, in Peoria, Illinois, to Claude and Josephine (Bieter) Hubble. He married Margaret Thomas in Peoria on May 29, 1952. She preceded him in death on January 10, 2004.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Leland and Robert Hubble, as well as four sisters, Alice Thurman, Mary Hadley, Shirley Kohler and Jean McCollum. He is survived by two brothers-in-law, James McCollum of Peoria and John William Thomas of Hawaii, and sister-in-law, Glennis Thomas of Metamora. He also is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
John was inducted into the United States Army on January 30, 1943, and achieved the rank of Technician 4th grade. He served in both World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 649 since 1946, last working for N.E. Finch & Co. in 1987. Following his retirement he and Marg traveled all over the world, taking hundreds of pictures that they loved to share with family and friends.
He was known for making and displaying working models of the heavy equipment he operated. He was a member of the Peoria Historical Society, AARP, Hiram Walkers Retirees Local 55, Friends of Glen Oak Zoo, the North American Model Engineers Society, Historical Construction Equipment Association, Michigan Flywheelers Association and Florida Fly Wheelers.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Rosewood Care Center of Peoria for their care and compassion the past six years.
In accordance with John's wishes there will be no service or visitation. Cremation will be accorded by Schmidt-Haller Funeral Home.
