I thought for days about what to write...if I should at all. Who can speak to such an untimely loss of a bright young spirit. I grew up with Joe in Sunnyland. There is something about coming of age together that leaves a connection I still cant describe as we near 40. Admittedly, we did not remain friends and were never close but shared some amazing life experiences.
It was by chance that I saw Joe again and met his wife a few years ago. It was clear hed met his match in all the best ways possible. When we ran into he each other he was always kind and endlessly funny, but somehow stoically serious. This was the Joe I knew.
He was always a force to be reckoned with...a leader, not a follower. Quick, bright, resourceful and hard working but also protective and had a strong sense of justice.
By far, the most amazing memory we shared was a high school trip to Cancun, Mexico where we rang in the millennium, partying like it was 1999. That trip was the stuff life is made of...Joe could laugh and play hard and in the same breath love and work harder.
Joe, all of us are stunned and saddened. Our hearts break for the family you made and for the family you were so proud to be from. I pray that all of us who knew you find the words to share the memories of your undeniable presence on our times together, if only so those who love you most are reminded of how much we all knew you loved them. May your mother, father, siblings, wife and children all be reminded that you were about love and laughter first. You did and would have put yourself between any harm before ever allowing it to touch those you valued. Above all I hope these words somehow express gratitude to those who are hurting. Please know, we see he left our world in a better place than he found it.

Joseph Michael Christopher entered my life on September 26th, 1981. His birth was the best thing that ever happened to me. I considered him a gift from God and a true blessing... He is my HONEYBOY. I can't speak of him in the past tense, because I can feel that he is still with me in spirit. Thank you all for your prayers and kind words,
Jenny Dixon

I remember when I was at home when I had to have surgery in my heart, although I was a black stranger, he considered me as a brother. The day I had to go back to my country, he could not stand this idea. And on the day of my journey we began to cry together, you were a big brother to me, and you will always remain, rest in peace my brother. My name is Mike Moïse
