Kathy Geber Obituary

Kathy Lynn Geber
LACON - Kathy Lynn Geber, 55, of Lacon passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at her home.
She was born on July 1, 1962, in Peoria to Wally and Carolyn (Zipper) Anderson of Metamora. On April 22, 1989, she married Martin Geber.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Martin of Lacon; two brothers, Kevin Anderson of Florida and Kirk (Debi) Anderson of Tremont; nine nieces and nephews, Jacy Anderson, Kate (Ryan) Sauder, Jake Anderson, Kyle (Maggie) Anderson, Kelly Anderson, David (Alaina) Piper, Zachary Piper, Brittany Piper and Allison (Brandon) Geber; and her beloved dog, Daisy Mae.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Hank and Katherine Zipper; paternal grandparents, Wallace and Mary Anderson; and a niece, Brynne Anderson.
Kathy graduated from East Peoria High School and went to Illinois Central College and received her Associate RN. She later graduated from OSF School of Nursing, earning her BSN and MSN in nursing. She served as a Med-Surge Nurse at OSF, a private Surgical Nurse for Dr. Wyffels, and later as a Case Manager at OSF and Kindred Hospital.
Due to her nurturing nature and love for others, she had a successful nursing career and it gave her the opportunity to help others. Kathy was always the first call when a family member needed medical advice. She would also make sure that the doctors and nurses were doing what they were supposed to when one of her loved ones needed care outside of the home.
She enjoyed cooking; baking; entertaining special family occasions, especially Christmas; photography; shopping; home decorating, for all seasons; wildlife art; and sun tanning on the beach with an umbrella drink. Most importantly, she loved and enjoyed spending time with her family and liked keeping up with the lives of her five nephews and four nieces and her many cousins.
Kathy fought a valiant battle with Myotonic Dystrophy for more than 20 years. This battle led to her participation in research programs at Strong Medical Center in Rochester, NY, and later at The University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City, KS. She did this not for herself, but for others struggling with this. Her sacrificial heart is what we will remember, miss and hold dear to our hearts.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at 7 p.m., with visitation from 4 p.m. until time of service at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Tom Heren of Our Savior Lutheran Church will officiate. A private burial will be at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation, 1004 O'Reilly Ave., San Francisco, CA 94129.

Kathy and I have been friends for over 50 years. I have so many memories over the years. We recently reconnected a few years back and I'm so glad we did. She loved to have us over and bake for us and even though she fought her disease she never complained to us. She was just happy to get together and talk about old times. We would laugh about things that'd happened over the years. I will miss you dear friend. Love you always!

I am so sorry for your great loss. May the God who "binds up the brokenhearted" and "comforts all who mourn" (Isaiah 61:1, 2) sustain your family during this challenging time. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Kathy at OSF. What a great nurse. I do not believe I ever saw her without a smile. I hope they do find a cure for this horrible disease that took her short life.

Kathy was a true friend and will be sorely missed by her friends. No matter how bad she may have been feeling, she would always be there for others. I am so thankful we reconnected and was able to spend time together and sharing many laughs together! We love you Kathy and your friendship will never be forgotten! Thoughts and prayers to her family during this difficult time. Love you all, Karen (Berry) and Doug Brooks
