COLFAX - Leon Kennedy Kellar, 80, of Colfax, the father of an East Peoria man, passed away at 1:23 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at his home.
His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Colfax. Pastor Connie Frase will be officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Colfax. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2015, at Ridgeview High School Gymnasium in Colfax and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Ridgeview Athletic Boosters.
Duffy-Pils Memorial Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.
Leon was born Nov. 21, 1934, in Manlius, the son of Randolph Michael and Hasel Nelson Kellar. They preceded him in death. He married Marilyn Westermeyer on Dec. 5, 1954, at Eppards Point. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Kim (Daniel) Streenz of Colfax and Lea Ann (Larry) Watson of Lexington; two sons, Rodney (Teri) Kellar of Colfax and Todd (Cheryl) Kellar of East Peoria; grandchildren, Kara (Chad) Ritchie, Brooke Hermanowicz and Michael Kellar, all of Bloomington, and Lauren Kellar of Colfax; great-grandchildren, Addison and Jack Ritchie and Mia Trudo; and one brother, Robert (Alice) Kellar of Chapel Hill, N.C.
Leon is a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Colfax and the Davis-Kerber American Legion in Colfax.
He is a veteran of the United States Army.
Mr. Kellar taught at Octavia and Ridgeview Schools for over 30 years, retiring in 1992. He coached junior and high school boys and girls in many sports. Mr. Kellar was an assistant basketball coach for 30 years and was the athletic director for Octavia and Ridgeview High Schools. In 1975 and 1978, he took Octavia's football team to the IHSA state playoffs. He coached the Ridgeview High School girls track team to a first place state finish in 1991.
Mr. Kellar was inducted into the IBCA as a career coach in 1993. He also was inducted into the Bloomington Normal Officials Association Hall of Fame in 2004.
Leon enjoyed fishing with his buddies in his spare time and he was an avid Cardinal's fan, looking forward to the baseball season each spring.
Leon had a special love and bond with his family, especially his immense love for his grandchildren.
