HENRY - Louis J. Merdian, 99, of Henry died at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at County Comfort Retirement Home in Henry.
Louis was born Feb. 24, 1909, in Henry, Ill., to Henry and Christine (Bogner) Merdian. He married Elizabeth E. Noder on Jan. 18, 1933, in Mount Palatine. She preceded him in death on Jan. 18, 2002.
Surviving are one son, Jerry (Jane) Merdian of Henry; two daughters, Pat (Walter) Schaidle of Metamora and Rita Ely of Granville; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
One infant son, one granddaughter, two brothers and two sisters, preceded him in death.
He had farmed in Whitefield Township in Henry for more than 50 years.
He was member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Henry.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at St. Mary's Church in Henry. Father Tom Mizeur will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Henry.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church Renovation fund, St. Margaret's Hospice or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Calvert-Johnson & McKitrick Memorial Home in Henry is in charge of arrangements.

Living in Virginia it is impossible to be in Henry at times like this.
I remember him from the very early days of my youth, remember where he lived and farmed, and his wife.
