Merle Sauder Obituary
TREMONT - Merle E. Sauder, 82, of Tremont passed from his temporary home on this earth to his eternal home with his Lord and Savior at 8:51 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2018, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL.
He was born on March 4, 1936, in Pekin, IL, to Edward and Julia (Hohulin) Sauder. He married Nancy C. Stoller on June 23, 1957, in Gridley, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Sauder of Tremont; two daughters, Cindy Sauder of Morton and Trudy (Dean) Bolliger of Tremont; two granddaughters, Paige (Dustin) Kilgus of Tremont and Brooke (Nathaniel) Kaiser of East Peoria; and one great-grandson, Sawyer Kilgus of Tremont.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Merle was a lifelong farmer in the Tremont area, where he took pride in growing Pioneer Seed Corn for many years. This provided detasseling jobs for many area youths over the years and Merle so enjoyed watching them in his fields and eating lunch in his yard. In his early years, he worked for Palmer Bliss Trucking, drove a water truck for R.A. Cullinan & Son, and drove a semi hauling grain for Gregg Sauder after he retired from farming.
Merle's favorite pastimes were lunch and dinner dates with his wife, Nancy, at their favorite restaurants, followed by long drives around the countryside looking at the fields, and their many trips to Florida and Branson, MO.
Merle was a born-again Christian and member of the Tremont Apostolic Christian Church.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at Tremont Apostolic Christian Church Fellowship Hall. Further visitation will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday, May 24, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. at Tremont Apostolic Christian Church, with church ministers officiating. Burial will be in the Tremont Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery.
