ASTORIA - Michael "Mike" Shawgo, age 64, of Astoria, Ill., passed away at 12:58 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Ill.
He was born on July 6, 1951, in Canton, Ill., a son of Max and Thelma (Loughary) Shawgo. He married Marilyn Hammond on May 29, 1990, in Astoria. She survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Michelle (and Rodney) Schisler of Corbin, Ky., Stephanie (and Jeremy) Polley of Maysville, Ky., Anissa (and Matt) Plummer of East Peoria, Ill., and Alisha (and Casey) Morrow of Peoria, Ill.; his son, Brian (and Susan) Shawgo of Ripley, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Corey, Kayla, Carolyn, Kami, Heather, Miranda, Jake, Haley, Haley, Megan and Tage; six great-grandchildren; his mother, Thelma Shawgo of Hamilton, Ill.; three sisters, Lynnette (and Dan) Parson of Denver, Ill., Sandra (and Jerry) Haist of Macomb, Ill., and Janis (and Tony) Shuman of Hamilton, Ill.; and two brothers, Max (and Penny) Shawgo of Mendon, Ill., and Mitchell (and Ginger) Shawgo of Astoria.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Max; and brother, Mark.
He worked for IDOT for 20 years, retiring in 2008.
Services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Wes Hendricker will officiate. Visitation will be held today, Jan. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Summum Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Astoria Fire Dept. or the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children.
