Phyllis Taylor Obituary

Peru woman was 100

PERU - Phyllis Grace Taylor, 100 years old, of Peru, formerly of Chillicothe, passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at Manor Court in Peru, Ill.

Services will be Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Davison-Fulton Anderson Funeral Chapel in Chilllicothe, with the Rev. Dr. Jennifer A. Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Chillicothe City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral chapel on Thursday.

She was born Dec. 3, 1911, in Pekin, Ill., to Phillip Adam and Louise Laura (Duley) Schwinn. She married Harvey Glenn Taylor on July 31, 1938, at Grace Methodist Church in Pekin. He passed away Dec. 14, 1993, in Peoria.

Before her marriage, she was a telephone operator/supervisor in Pekin. In the 1950s, she worked at Ben Franklin in Chillicothe.

She is survived by her daughter, Claudia Mikyska of Peru, Ill.; and two grandchildren, Carl (Michelle) Mikyska of Tallahassee, Fla., and Jane Zorgdrager of LaSalle, Ill. Also surviving are her five great-grandchildren, John C. Zorgdrager, Alisha Zorgdrager, Megan Zorgdrager, Allison Mikyska and David Mikyska.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Harvey; her son-in-law, Joseph Mikyska Jr.; three sisters, Viola Newlund, Velma Heilman and Minnie Rowan; and her brother, Gerald Schwinn.

I remember the overnights in Chillicothe and visiting Uncle Harvey downstairs in his barber shop. Aunt Phyllis tried so hard to teach me piano and I had no talent, but she did try. Holidays at her house are memorable; those were good days spent with family....
