Sarah Burt Obituary
GERMANTOWN HILLS - Sarah E. Burt, age 16, of Germantown Hills, Ill., passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2010.
She was born July 17, 1993, in Hoffman Estates, Ill., to Randy A. and Lisa A. (Hanner) Burt.
Surviving are her parents of Germantown Hills; one brother, Joel; and one sister, Hannah Burt of Germantown Hills; her grandparents, Howard and Ruth Burt of Monroe, Mich., and Marvin Hanner of Jackson, Mich. She is also survived by her boyfriend, Tim Thannum of Germantown Hills; multiple aunts, uncles and cousins; and her beloved cat, Shannon.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Jeanne Hanner.
Sarah was a student at Metamora Township High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She was involved in the National Youth Leadership Program in Washington, D.C. She was a member of Rebuilding Together in Peoria and swam for many years with various swim clubs in the area.
She was a lifeguard at the Metamora pool and also volunteered for the swim team, working with younger swimmers.
Sarah valued learning and sought ways to broaden her knowledge of the world. She was planning on going to pharmacy school after graduation.
She enjoyed skiing, family time on the beaches of Lake Michigan, and roller coasters.
Sarah was very compassionate, generous and caring to all those who knew her.
Funeral services for Sarah will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2010, at the Willow Hill United Methodist Church in East Peoria. The Rev. Ken Hogren will be officiating. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. today at Willow Hill United Methodist, and also one hour prior to services. Cremation rites will be accorded after the services.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund has been established at CEFCU in Sarah's name for victims of sexual abuse in sports-related activities.

Its been over a year since Sarah's passing, and not a day goes by that I don't think about her. I decided to get on here and read all of the past entries, and I know that Sarah smiled up in heaven knowing about all of the love and sympathy her family was given.

I had just met Sarah. We both recently got jobs at the new Hy-Vee and she was my orientation buddy. Everytime we walked pass each other we would smile and wave at eachother. I loved hearing all about her trip to Italy and about her father's new job at Bradley because I had told her it was in my last year at Bradley. She's the most adorable fun girl I've ever met and I feel so blessed that I got to know a little about her. Even though I won't be able to get to know her even better I'm thankful for the little time I had. I will be praying for her family. I'm sorry I just heard about her passing. I will always think about her working at Hy-Vee. She'll always be in my heart.

Dear Burt Family, Many days have now past since Sarah"s passing. Going to school with Sarah for the past eleven years of my life has been a very enlightening and good experience. Although Sarah will not be with us through our senior year, I know that all of us that graduated with sarah from middle school and junior high will have her in our thoughts as we move through and past high school. I am so blessed to have gotten to know sarah over the past two years i have been with joel. you guys are a wonderful family, and sarah was such a wonderful person. I was the pool manager and had Sarah as a guard last year - she was great! One of my and the other managers favorite memories from last year was how Sarah could go down gracefully with toes pointed in the deep end, clean out the drains in one sweep and come up on one breath - We were all amazed on her ability! She will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Sarah sat by me in chemistry class sophmore year. She really helped me through that first semester because I always forgot my pencil and she would always lend me hers.
