Wayne McClain Obituary
PEORIA - Coach Wayne McClain, 60, of Champaign, formerly of Peoria, passed away peacefully at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
A Memorial Service for Coach McClain will be held tonight at 5 p.m. at Manual Academy. For more information, visit www.SimonsMortuary.com.

Coach McClain was my sixth grade teacher, my basketball coach that year, and again as a freshman at Manual when I moved back into Manual's district. Coach was tough, but fair. He was about that conditioning and defense. He was about nurturing the best "you" and helping you find your role on the team. I quit the team one practice because the running seemed unbearable. The next morning after I had slept on it...I placed a note on his desk asking if I could get back on the team. He allowed me back, but I had to run my suicides that I missed plus a "few" additional. I did not start the next game...but when I played I played my heart out. I never quit another team or anything else. There was no tougher coach. No better coach in my basketball life and his passion for teaching was always apparent in the classroom and on the court. Rest in Peace Coach and I salute you daily as being a catalyst in my life.

My condolences, thoughts, and prayers go out to the McClain family. I had the privileged of knowing him and working with him. He was an inspiration and mentor to me as well as a great friend. He benefited the lives of all those around him and will be missed. The world is a lesser place without him but heaven has been enriched.
