Earl W. Hulihan, 72, a resident of Bangor, PA for over 35 years, died at home on Wednesday surrounded by his family on June 2, 2021. He was the loving husband of Donna K. (Deiter) Hulihan for 49 years.
Born in Philadelphia on January 21, 1949, he was the son of Anna M. (Keefer) Hulihan and Earl W. Hulhan Sr. He graduated from Cheltenham High School in 1967 and gained his B.S. and M.S. degrees from East Stroudsburg State College (now ESU). Earl later served on the ESU Alumni Board of Directors, and was honored in 2012 with their Distinguished Alumni award.
Earl had a distinguished career in medicine and the pharmaceutical industry and was a recognized international consultant to the global regulatory community. During the early 1970s, Hulihan worked as a director of Health and Physical Services at YMCAs in Somerville and Westfield, NJ. He contributed to the development of 'The International Special Olympics' program. For over 22 years, he worked at Rutgers University Medical Center in the area of Cardiovascular Rehabilitation. He was a member of the United States Olympic Committee from 1971-1976, and was the recipient of the American Heart Association Distinguished Honors award in 1982.
During the 1980s, Earl transitioned to a career in FDA compliance and computer validation for the pharmaceutical industry and became an expert in his field. He traveled worldwide, and was an associate professor with Rutgers University School of Medicine, a visiting professor with the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and a professor with the China Food and Drug Administration's Institute of Executive Development. Notably, Earl was the first westerner ever appointed to a professorship at either SUTCM or the CFDA Institute. He conducted over 650 international audits and over 900 training sessions in his field. He authored and edited numerous articles and books in his field, including Good Clinical Practice: A Question & Answer Reference Guide.
In addition to his wife, Donna, Earl is survived by his son Christian M. Hulihan and his wife CorrieJane, his daughter Meghan L (Hulihan) Atkins, his brother James A. Hulihan, his three grandchildren Jeremiah, Anna, and Eleanor, his great-grandson Brady, and his pets Kennia and Adonis.
People from all walks of life were drawn by Earl's wit, humor and charm. His character was exhibited in his business motto, "Integrity you can trust". His interests included family genealogy, military history, Biblical studies, and traveling to Prince Edward Island.
There will be a visitation on Tuesday, June 8 beginning at 4 PM until 7 PM and funeral services at 7PM at the Ruggiero Funeral Home, LLC, 126 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Pen Argyl.
