Eva Hughes Obituary

Eva Mae Besecker Hughes, 82, of Stroudsburg, died on Sunday morning, Aug. 26, at the VNA Hospice House in East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of Richard Hughes, at home.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Charles Schuler and James Besecker.

Born on June 12, 1925, in Saylorsburg, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Myrtle (Dieter) Klingle.

She was a member of Cherry Valley United Methodist Church.

She, along with her husband, James Besecker, owned and operated Besecker's Diner in Portland for several years. She also worked as a waitress for the Snydersville Diner for 25 years before retiring in 1993.

She was a former Sunday school teacher at Neola United Methodist Church.

She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts and a Girl Scout leader.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Barry Schuler of Neola and David Schuler of Stroudsburg; a sister, Doris Schuler of Stroudsburg; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosemary Buzzard, and a son, Charles Schuler.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Thomas Funeral Home, 401 N. Fifth St., Stroudsburg, PA 18360. Burial will take place in Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg.

Memorial donations should be made to the American Cancer Society, RD 2, Box 2138, Stroudsburg, PA 18360, or Cherry Valley United Methodist Church, RD 1, Box 1410A, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
