Gary Johnson Obituary

Gary Johnson
07/29/1948 - 01/11/2021
Gary T. Johnson, "The Babe", passed away peacefully on Monday, January 11th, 2021 surrounded by the family he adored, he was 72 years old.
Gary was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 29, 1948 to Daniel & Angeline Johnson. On January 15, 1966 he married the love of his life, Linda Marie (Konawalik). The two raised three beautiful children together, Terri-Lynn (Dave Timko), Laurie-Jo (Chad Kufen) and Kristopher Gary.
Gary joined the Army where he served his country in Vietnam as an E5 SP5. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran, and always greeted every fellow veteran with a "Welcome Home".
Upon completion of his voluntary service, he returned to the Poconos and he worked for Patterson Kelly for a short time before accepting a position with General Electric. There, he worked for 30+ years until they were sold to National Carbon Products, where he continued to work until his retirement.
Gary was one of the first board members of the East Stroudsburg Youth Association (ESYA), where he also served his community as a football coach.
Gary was a board member of the Stones Throw community that he loved. He recently took up golf in his retirement and had a wonderful group of friends from the community that he played with weekly.
Gary was the life of the party, but most important to him was the family he loved; the family he was beyond proud of. His grandchildren meant the world to him, and he beamed in their accomplishments.
He had a stubborn spirit, a giving heart, and he never failed to make you feel loved. When you were in his presence, you knew you mattered.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Angeline; his father, Daniel; and four sisters, Penny, Gloria, Estelle and Evelyn; as well as his brother, Robert.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his three children, Terri, Laurie and Kristopher; and his four grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Zachary, Gavin and Dominic.
The family would like to thank all the Nursing Staff and Doctors of Lehigh Valley Pocono that provided exceptional care to Gary, and the many prayers from Father Don and Father Ryan; and family and friends that provided them with peace during this difficult time.
Due to the difficulties of the COVID pandemic, Gary's family has chosen to have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
Donations may be made to the AWSOM Animal Shelter.
In lieu of donations, hand written condolences, photographs and memories may be mailed to 300 Foundation Drive Lock Haven, Pa. 17745 and will be part of Gary's Celebration of Life.

He was so nice and he was funny. I would be "carving" wood in my garage because I was building furniture for my living room. It made him laugh because it was a tedious job. He was such a nice man and I liked making him laugh. I will miss him a LOT. Well, now he is with my friend Jim Smeltz, whom he also knew. I think Gary told me he went to high school with him. Gary was a neighbor who lived a couple doors up from me.

To the Johnson family,
I am so so sorry of your loss. I know how painful of a loss this is. I grew up at the top of the hill from you. I never had much interaction with Mr. Johnson, but when I did he was very kind. May the love of your family and friends give u strength during this difficult time. God Bless each of u.
