Joel S. Samuelson M.D.

Joel S. Samuelson MD, 66, of East Stroudsburg, died Monday, in his home. He was the husband of Jintana (Prasan) Samuelson, and the late Nilda (Pauline) Samuelson. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Sept. 19, 1935, he was the son of Janet (Brown) Samuelson Kerman of Pompano Beach, Fla. and the late Milron Samuelson. A graduate of Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H., and New York University School of Medicine, New York City, N.Y., he interned at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Dr. Samuelson did his postgraduate work at the University of Pittsburgh; Scripp's Clinic and Research Foundation, LaJolla, Calif.; Stanford Medical School, Stanford, Calif.; and Darnall Army Hospital, Fort Hood, Texas. Dr. Samuelson had a dermatology practice in East Stroudsburg for more than 30 years. He was a member of several societies including American Academy of Dermatology, Monroe County Medical Society, American Medical Association, Aerospace Medical Association, and American Federation for Clinical Research. A contributor to numerous medical journals, he was also a consultant at various hospitals, and received several awards. He was a member of Temple Israel Synagogue in Stroudsburg. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by five sons, James of Philadelphia, William of Prescott, Ariz., Gary of Sacramento, Calif., Mark of East Stroudsburg, and Alexander in Thailand; three daughters, Barbara Feigum, wife of Michael, of Womelsdorf, Berks County, Pamela of Wilkes-Barre, and Jennifer of Tannersville; six grandchildren; and a devoted friend, Rebecca Drake of East Stroudsburg. Graveside services were held Tuesday, Sept. 10, in Temple Israel Cemetery, Weissport. Rabbi Marcy Green officiated.
