Robert M. Counterman, 76, of East Stroudsburg, passed away Friday, Aug. 13, at Pocono Medical Center.
Born on Feb. 14, 1928, in East Stroudsburg, he was the son of the late James R. and Lillian (Bogart) Counterman.
Robert was a resident of Monroe County his whole life. Prior to his retirement in 1983, he was employed at Packaging Corp. in Delaware Water Gap for 28 years as a beater engineer. Prior to that, Robert worked for Pennsylvania State Highway as an equipment operator for 14 years.
He was a member of Station 36 Shawnee Fire Company for three years. Robert was also a member of Delaware Water Gap Volunteer Fire Company for four years and Monroe County Fire Police Association for 13 years.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
Surviving are three sons, Vincent Counterman and Boyd Counterman Sr., both of East Stroudsburg, and Randy Williams of Brodheadsville; four daughters, JoAnn Collepardi of El Dorado Hills, Calif., Vicki Vetesy of East Stroudsburg, Anita Whipple of Franklin, Ind., and Penny Willett of Port Tabacco, Md.; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul Counterman and Arthur Counterman; and one sister, Nina Getz.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg. Burial will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery, Shoemakers.
A visitation for family and friends will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at the funeral home.
