WINTER HAVEN - Mr. John A. Boyd, Jr., age 61, died of cancer Saturday (April 9, 2011) at home.
Born in Palatka, FL, on Dec. 17, 1949, he came to Winter Haven from there in 1959. He was a social worker for the State of Florida for over 25 years. He was a member of Hurst Chapel AME Church in Winter Haven.
Mr. Boyd is survived by his wife Brenda Boyd, Winter Haven; sons John Boyd, III, (Larissa) of Seattle, WA, Gary Boyd (Kaprise) of Jonesboro, GA; mother Juanita Boyd of Winter Haven; brothers Ronald, Keith, Clayton, Kenneth Boyd; sisters Jacqueline Boyd-Thomas, Jannice Almansur, Arnita Calhoun; and 5 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8pm Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Hurst Chapel AME Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2011 at Hurst Chapel AME Church.

I;m so sorry to hear about John. I was his supervisor in the Winter Haven office for a while, he was always a hard worker, soft spoken and courteous person. He displayed a Christian character. I have no doubt he's in God's arms now. My prayers are with the family. Angie Tapanes (Ocala, Fl.)
