Lois Therese Downs, 92, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021 in Poway. Lois was born, last of five children, to Eugene and Clara Weideman, in Chicago, Illinois on June 6, 1929.
After graduating from McHenry High School, Lois worked for DuPont. She married her husband, Cassius (Jim) Downs in 1950. Together they raised four boys, Cassius, Kim, Craig and Keith. They lived in McHenry, Il; Decatur, GA; Charlotte, NC; Dobbs Ferry, NY; Westland/Livonia, MI; Crown Point, IN; finally landing in Poway, CA. in 1976.
Lois worked in real estate for a time and retired from the U.S. Dept. of Commerce. She was very active in politics and the PTA while the boys were in school. She spent many evenings bowling and playing cards with family and friends. Lois was a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Poway. She loved to play bingo and she and her husband volunteered for many years at the Poway Senior Center.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Cassius and Theresa Downs of San Rafael, CA, Kim Downs of Clearwater, FL, Craig and Futsuki Downs of Benicia, CA and Keith and Bella Downs of Poway, CA, grandchildren Pamela, Robert, James, Emily, Chris, Maggie, Nicole, Michael and Katherine, and six great-grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her four siblings, Eugene, Marie, Adolph and Robert, and her husband Cassius Downs in December 1999.
Her remains will be interred in the family plot in McHenry, Illinois. A private celebration of life will be for immediate family only.
