Millicent Seawright Obituary

Mary Millicent Shannon Seawright passed away, surrounded by family, at NMMC in Tupelo on August 2, 2025 after a short illness.

She was born to Virginia and Bain Shannon on October 29 1948. She graduated from Pontotoc High School in 1966. She attended Ole Miss, where she was a member of the AOPi sorority and majored in marketing and finance.

She worked at Morgan Keegan in Memphis as an accountant for years where she met Bill in 1974. They married in 1978 and moved back to Pontotoc. Millicent spent her years involved in her children's activities. Over the years she was an active member of several bridge clubs, the Fidelis club, the garden club, the DAR, the Pontotoc Republican Women, was a board member at the Chamber of Commerce, she served as President for the Endowment for Excellence in Education board, was a member of multiple PTOs, was an active partner in Shannon and Graham eye clinic, and most recently a founding member of The Pontotoc Mahjong League. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Pontotoc where she served in many capacities and was a faithful member of the choir.

Millicent had a love for the Ole Miss Rebels , she loved gardening and flowers , all animals, a holiday and festive occasion, and her family, especially her two grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her son, William Joseph Seawright Junior ( Will) and her husband William ( Bill) Seawright.

Survivors include her daughter Molly Seawright Lovorn ( Barrett) , 2 grandchildren Mary Kiley Lovorn and Benjamin Barrett Lovorn, her sister Sally Gillentine ( Ken), nephews Clayton Gillentine and John Shannon Gillentine (Anna), great nephew, Van Gillentine, and great nieces, Kathleen and Kennedy, as well as many cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 5th from 5pm-7pm at Pontotoc Methodist Church and from 10am-11am Wednesday, August 6th with the funeral following at 11am.

Donations can be made in her memory to Pontotoc First Methodist church.

Millicent cared for my daddy Dr. R. L. Shannon, with daily visits when I couldn“t. She was a compassionate and loving woman. She was more than a first cousin, she was my friend. Praying for her daughter Molly and her sister Sally during this time of grief.
