Fire Chief Anthony J. (Gus) Guglielmo, 91, formerly of East Providence, Rhode Island, passed away on Monday February 24, 2025, at his home in Dayville. He was the husband of Marguerite (Marge) D. (Brennan) Guglielmo, they were married January 29, 1955. Chief Gus was born in Providence, Rhode Island, December 9, 1933, son of the late John and Frances (DeLisi) Guglielmo.
He is survived by his daughter Cheryl D. Guglielmo of Temple Terrace, Florida, son Michael A. Guglielmo (Kathleen) of Sterling, grandson Michael A. Guglielmo, Jr. and wife Tessa of Sterling and their sons Rocco and Romeo. Sister-in-law Beverly A. Panas and brother-in-law George A. Panas of Reboth, Massachusetts and Florida. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Gus was predeceased by his son Mark A. Guglielmo, granddaughter Sonja Guglielmo, and brother-in-law Chester W. Barrows.
Gus served in the Navy during the Korean War. He joined the East Providence Fire Department in 1955. During his tenure, he rose through the ranks of Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief, and eventually to Fire Chief. He held that position until his retirement in January 1992 after serving 37 years in the Fire Department. Chief Gus had an associate's degree in Applied Fire Service, he was a member of the Rhode Island Firefighter Instructors, the New England Association of Firefighters Instructors, the Rhode Island Safety Association, the International Society of Fire Service Instructors, and the Joint Council of Fire Service. He was also a member of the Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs and the New England Fire Chiefs.
Gus was on the board of the Rhode Island Firefighter Instructors Association. As Chief, he was a member of the Massachusetts Association of Fire Chiefs, Bristol County Association of Fire Chiefs, and also the International Association of Fire Chiefs. He was appointed to the Fire Education and Training Coordinating Council by the Governor of Rhode Island. Gus was an active member of the Kingsway Country Club where he was an avid golfer. Gus and his wife Marge moved to Florida in 1992.
