MONROE, MI - Guy Clifton Ervin, age 83, of Monroe, formerly of New Boston, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.
Guy was born August 16, 1940 in New Boston, Ohio, he was the son of Guy Curtis and Vurla Mae (Smith) Ervin. He married Fern Alleen Henson September 29, 1962, they had just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.
He attended East High School in Portsmouth, Ohio.
He proudly served his country in the US Army from February 24, 1959 until his honorable discharge April 3, 1962.
Guy worked for many years at McLouth Steel. He also served as pastor of First Christian Baptist Church for 43 years; retiring from the church in 2022.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking. He would often build items to help raise funds for church missions.
He is survived by his wife Fern; five children, Connie Elaine Bryant of Monroe, April May Ervin of Warren, Deborah Lynn (Mike) Anson of Newport, Guy Clifton Ervin, Jr. of Monroe and Clinton Eugene (Danielle) Ervin of Rockwood; seven siblings, Orie (Sherry) Ervin, Elenor Scaggs, Donna (Don) Sammons, Linda (Jerry) Wadkins, Ruth (Jerry) Kotlarczyk, Joyce (Phil) Stamper and Janie (Mike) Craft; twelve grandchildren, Crystal, Kassie, Steven, A.J., Rick, Curtis, Morgan, Craig, Courtney, Kennedy, MaKenzie and Cody and twelve great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harold Ervin and daughter-in-law, Lisa Ervin.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 4, 2023 from 12 noon until funeral services at 6 p.m. at Bacarella Funeral Home 1201 S. Telegraph Road, Monroe, MI 48161. His daughter Rev. Connie Bryant will officiate. He will then have visitation on Friday, October 6, 2023 from 4 to 8 p.m. at D.W. Swick Funeral Home, 1104 Harrisonville Ave., New Boston, OH 45662; where visitation will be from 11 a.m. until funeral services at 12 noon Saturday with his son-in-law Rev. Mike Anson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace, OH.
