Alexander Kurek Obituary

ALEXANDER ''CORKY'' KUREK Age 78 formerly of East and Highland, Indiana passed away on Friday, June 27, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Letty Chona Kurek; one son, Robert Kurek of East Chicago; five grandchildren, Kelly (Brian) Bardeson, Dawn Whitaker, Penny (Brian) Pleasant, Terry (Jose) Rodriguez, and Kenon Whitaker, great grandchildren, Mark, Dominique and Brianne Bardeson, Autumn Pleasant, and Adrian, Anthony and Alainna Rodriguez ; two sisters, Lucille Miller of Black Oak and Eleanor Grudzien of East Chicago; many nieces and nephews; three stepchildren, Doris (Erik) Hamlin of Hammond, Evelyn (Derek) Morrison of Valparaiso, Indiana, and Greg (Yolanda) Chona of Sarasota, Florida; He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene (nee Cark) and his daughter, Elaine (Kenny) Whittaker; Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the Fife Funeral Home, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd, East Chicago with Deacon Martin Denkhoff officiating. Burial in St. John Cemetery in Hammond. The visitation will be held at the Fife Funeral Home Home from 3-8 p.m. Monday June 30, 2003. Corky was the retired owner and operator of Avenue Towing Company in East Chicago for 45 years. He retired from Inland Steel Company after 32 years. He was a former member of the East Chicago Elks Lodge #481, and a former member of St. James Church in Highland.

My most heartfelt sympathies & Condolences to Corky's family.He was a bright figure in my family's history.A longtime friend of my Father & Mother,John & Stella Ball: Godfather to my Sister,Linda:& like an Uncle to My brother David & I when we were children.His passing is this world's loss,men of his character & caliber are few & far between.
