Mr. D was a great man and loved all the kids at Locke Elementary school. We loved when he would sing "It takes a whole village to raise a child." Great man.

Wow, I have been trying to find Mr. Daniels for many years. He was my 6th grade teacher back in Los Angeles in the early 80's. He left such an impact on all of his students. Especially the male students. He was all about teaching us to be respectfull men. I have been wanting to find him and just tell him thank you!! It saddens me to find out he has passed on. Rest In Peace Mr. Daniels. Even though I haven't seen you since my elementary school graduation in 1982 you have always been a big positive part of my life. Me and some of the other guys always talk about you. Especially when me Danny, and Dante talk. We always laugh about how we got smart with you in class and you took us across the hall in the book room and gave us a few swats with that yard stick. LOL. Your were truly a great man.

We try not to think about how did you die, but rather how did you live? Not what did you gain, but rather what did you give. There are times that we measure the worth of a man. With you you befriended those really in need. You alway had words of good cheer, which would bring a smile, to banish a tear. We think of you today, as we do everyday, and thank God for the time we did have with you.

A golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands at rest; God broke my heart to prove that he only takes the very best! It's lonesome here without you and we miss you everyday. Life just doesn't seem the same since you went away. When days are sad and lonely, and everything seems to go wrong, we seem to hear your voice saying'"Cheer up and carry on." Each time we see your picture, you seem to smile and say, "I am in God's keeping. We'll all meet again some day."

Memorial Day 2007

In loving memory of ALONZO K. DANIELS

We cannot see you with our eyes, or hear you with our ears. But thoughts of you are with us still, and often dry our tears. You whisper in the rustling leaves that linger in the fall; and in the gentle evening breeze, we think we hear you call. A part of you remains with us that that none can take away. It gives us strength to carry on, at the dawning of each new day. We think of the happy and joyous times that we shared, and then we softly sigh. But this we know.. we'll meet again, and never have to say goodbye.

Your monument is now down, and we are sure that you would be so proud. We can hear you saying GOD BLESS YOU--ALL THE TIME!

Alonzo:
I thank Our Father for finally giving me the right words to say to you. You were the best friend God could ever have provided me with. You were(and you are) my spiritual brother. I know that God had a very special place in his Heavenly Kingdom awaiting your arrival. I live each day in quest of again being in His and your presence. Know that I continue to relive our many memories. Know, my good friend, that I continue to love you and cherish those special memories.
To the Daniels family. I feel certain that we all share the blessing, in our own special and personal ways, of having had Alonzo be a part of our existence. We also should all share the knowledge that our brother is now in God's Heavenly Presence and likely teaching young angels how to grow into adult angels. God Bless you. I love you all.

ALONZO-we are sending YOU all of our wishes, along with a special prayer. We know that God will continue to bless, and keep YOU always in his care. We realize that nothing ever really dies, and is not born anew. We still have a bridge of memories, from here on earth, to Heaven above, of YOU! This keeps YOU always near us--because it's the bridge that we call LOVE. This always takes us back to YOUR brighter years, to the happy sunny days, and to all of the precious golden memories, that will be with us always, and for many years to come!

In remembering YOU today ALONZO, it brings us closer to our precious memories of the days when YOU were here. YOU were always smiling with happiness, and spreading loads of cheer.

There is a bridge of memory, from here to Heaven above, that keeps you very close to us, it's called the Bridge of Love.

As time goes by without you, and days turn into years, they hold a million memories, and a thousand silent tears.

To us you were so special, what more is there to say, except to wish with all our hearts, that you were here today.

On Your 2nd Easter in Heaven

You never looked for praise.

Your dreams were often spoken.

Your wants were always for others.

Most of the time your worries would go unspoken, too.

You were a firm foundation through all our storms of life, and a steady hand to hold in the times of stress and strife.

You were always a true friend that everyone could turn to, when times were good or bad. You were one of our greatest blessings---the man we all called "DAN".

Alonzo,

On your birthday today you are in heaven in the very quiet resting place, where gentle breezes blow;in there lies the one we love so dearly, who we lost one year ago.

It's so lonely here without you, it's such an empty place, we can no longer hear your voice, or see your smiling face.

Your resting place we visit, and put flowers there with care,

No one knows the heartache, when we turn and leave you there.

We think of you in silence, and often speak your name; All we have are memories, and the many pictures and tapes of you, that we have all arranged.

Our hearts still ache with sadness, and silent tears still flow, for what it meant to loose you, no one will ever know!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALONZO!

ALONZO DANIELS ON YOUR 2ND CHRISTMAS IN HEAVEN . . . . . . .

If we could have a lifetime wish,

A wish that could come true,

We'd pray to God with all our hearts

For yesterday and YOU,

A thousand words can't bring you back,

We know because we've tried.

And neither will a million tears,

We know because we've cried.

You left behind our broken hearts,

And precious memories too,

But we never wanted memories . .

We only wanted YOU!

You left behind broken hearts

That loved you so sincere

Loving and kind in all your ways,

True and upright

to the end of your days.

You never failed to do your best,

Your heart was true and tender,

You worked hard for those you left,

Your memory will always be the sweetest thing in life,

And will forever be remembered.

MERRY CHRISTMAS,

Love,

Your FAMILY

It just doesn't seem like your are gone away,

I see and talk to you everyday,

Sometimes tears just come into my eyes,

Before I remember a grown man isn't supposed to cry,

But how many times did I see tears rolling down your face,

When one of your students had lost his way,

And as your lunch hour passed you by,

You were still praying and saying "The Lord will make a way somehow."

Alonzo, Brothers & Sisters--are still the same,

Unable to talk or call each other by

name.

God has a way of making us see the light. Oh, why don't we wake up before it turns night?

I thank the Lord for sending you as a special friend,

Who I know will be with me until my very end.

And when these earthly days are through,

Then I shall be home with the both of you!!!

"GOD IS GOOD!"

Thanks, Alongo

Mr. D as I would call him.

Was a generous human being.

He was thoughtful, full of love.

Had a smile on his face everyday.

He was uplifting and encouraging.

I loved to see him because he was so full of life. His students loved him and faculty too. He was a friend who I could talk to. Mr. D has been missed but not from my thoughts. I have never met a human being just like him and probably never will however, there are individuals similar to Mr. D. here on this earth right now. And when I encounter them, I think of him and how he was to everyone who interacted with him. Mr. D. pray for me and pray for us. We love you and we know you are with God.

As you would say to many of us, God Bless You.

Alonzo--Little did we know that morning of December 14th that God would call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone. For part of us went with you the day God called you home. You left us beautiful memories. Your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you, you are always at our sides. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; but as God calls us one by one ---the chain will link again.

Alonzo you are very much loved, and to this day, you are greatly missed. We are grateful to God that we have you in our hearts!

In Loving Memory of ALONZO KENNETH DANIELS, co-worker, teacher, basketball coach, counselor, and friend.

Sorry you had to leave in a sudden kind of way.

But your friend Jesus said He needed your right away!

So we didn't call or even get a chance to say good-bye.

Jesus told you that he had a house larger than all the mansions on the earth.

So, he sent for YOU, ALONZO to come to live eternally in heaven.

YOU were not late-- and YOU went right into the pearly gate.

You always said that Jesus always provides a way, for us all to keep in our minds, that He's coming back for us all, one day.

Dear Daniels and Stover Family,

Each year the Indiana Resource Center for Families with Special Needs (IN*SOURCE) recognizes individuals who work in public education for "Outstanding support and commitment to students and their families." We received many letters of commendation from families who describe the work of people who have clearly made a difference in the lives of children. We thought you would like to know that your brother ALONZO DANIELS, was recently nominated by parents who believe he made a positive impact in their child's life.

We thought you would like to know that his hard work and commitment to children with special needs and their families has not gone unnoticed. Please accept our gratitude on behalf of the parents who submitted his name and the other parents, students and educators in your area who appreciate the important work that he has done.

Sincerely,

After reading so much Love of all those you inspired in your time and within their life.
For all those you developed a bond of trust and believed in, for all those you encourage to achieve their dreams and excel. Everyone's memories and words were expressed distinctively of how you not only touched but embraced theirs lives.

“Alonzo You were an Original.

“The Art of Achievement “

(Alonzo it was as if at the beginning.)

“You held in your hand a brush, and stood before a white canvas of time.

The paints were your thoughts, emotions and acts.

You selected the colors, dark or bright, weak or strong,
Good or bad.

You selected the colors of your acts, cold or warm, fearful or daring small or big.

You had seen yourself as a Master of Servant of the race, Educating and Ministering to human needs, and radiating happiness.

You had seen yourself as a builder, with determination of making a creative contribution to the evolution of modern civilization.

You strived to make the ideal in your mind become a reality on the canvas of time.

You selected and mixed the positive colors within your heart, mind
and spirit into the qualities of being a father, a teacher and a leader.

Not only for your child, not for only one child. After reading all that they said
and what all that they had to share.
Just simply said! You were the one that was always there.

You became uplift
Of other’s, Self esteem, effective learning and accomplishments.

You painted a portrait of how you would live your life,

Living, with Patience, Determination, you displayed a dynamic personality
To your family with Endurance, Self Discipline, and at the same worked with
Love, Guidance, and Faith.

Each moment of your life has been a brush stroke in the painting of your life time.

There were the bold sweeping strokes of your dynamic purpose.

There were the lights and shadows that made your life deep yet strong.

There are the little touches that added the stamp of character and worth.

The Art of Achievement is the art that you made your life,

" A Master Piece "

We love and miss Mr. Daniels. I had a dream that Mr. Daniels would have gotten well one day. However, God showed me over the mountians, and hills how well he is today. An angel told me to do not worry about him, as the angel was calling his name. And Jesus told me that he will be well in heaven.

When I think about Mr. Daniels, I think about a rose, because he was so good to everyone in our whole school. When someone needed anything, he gave it to them. I want to thank him with all my heart for what he did for me. When children did not have a father, he was their father, and he was there for them, for whatever they needed and wanted.

Mr. Daniels was a real angel to everyone while he was on earth. He won the Outstanding Teacher from Indiana, Excellence in Education Award. God made him win because he deserved it. And one more thing, he taught me to believe in myself, because he believed in me.

Now that you are gone Mr. Daniels it is not the same without you. We really need and want you back. The whole school misses you, forever!

God Bless You in his name! Roses are red, the sky in blue, and there are angels in heaven who watch over us, and so do you!

When Tomorrow Starts Without Me, and I'm not there to see:

If the sun should rise and find your eyes, all filled with tears for me.

I wish so much you wouldn't cry the way you did today,

And each time that you think of me, I know you'll miss me too:

But when tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand,

That an angel came and called my name, and took me by the hand,

And said my place was ready, in heaven far above, and that I'd have to leave behind, all those I deerly love.

But as I turned to walk away, a tear fell from by eye,

For all my life, I'd always thought, I didn't want to die.

I had so much to live for, so much yet to do.

It seemed almost impossible, that I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays, the good ones and the bad,

I thought of all the love we shared, and all the fun we had.

If I could relive yesterday, just even for a while,

I'd say good-bye and kiss you all and maybe see you smile.

But then I fully realized, that this could never be,

For emptiness and memories, would now take the place of me.

So when tomorrow stats without me,

Don't think we're far apart, for every time you think of me,

I'm right here, in your heart!

Dear Friends,

The Gary Community School Corp. lost a good soldier in Mr. Alonzo Daniels. He was an excellent special education teacher, and he was a very special gentleman. He really cared about children. We need more people like him in all of the classrooms of America! I hope that his family realizes what a great contribution he made, and the many lives he touched throughout his teaching career.

February 6, 2005

To the Family of Mr. Alonzo Daniels:

I was deeply saddened to learn of the recent transition of Mr. Daniels. We talked by phone right after he left the hospital in Chicago. He was feeling good and had a very positive outlook. I prayed for his recovery but I know that God Knows what is best for all of us. I was out of the city when I received the call about Mr. Daniels's funeral. Again, I was disappointed because I was unable to attend the services for my favorite faculty member, good friend and son.

However, I am writing this letter to you so that you will know the depths of my appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Daniels for the outstanding work he did as a teacher at Locke School under my principalship. Alonzo was my right and left arms. His teaching ability was second to none. The Students loved Mr. Daniels. He provided them a quality education, and opportunitues to develop sportsmanship and team spirit. His kindness prevailed in every situation while he maintained strict standards of conduct for all children attending Locke School.

Mr. Daniels was in charge of the building whenever I had to leave for meetings and other important school business. I never was concerned because I knew he would take care of everything and anything that needed to be done. I tried to talk him into becoming an administrator but he wanted no part of that arena. He would have been an outstanding principal!

I will never forget how Mr. Daniels would bring his brother and sister-in-law from California to put on those magnificent performances for our students. He helped me get outstanding quest speakers for our career day programs and on other occasions he brought in many dignitaries to inspire our children!

Mr. Daniels was a born teacher. Everything he did was a plus for children. He never tired of helping students reach their highest potential.

Alonzo Daniels will be missed and I will think of him forever. He made my life richer and blessed. I know he is with God and has no more pains and worries. And, I know that there will never be another teacher like Mr. Daniels. He will always be a shining star!

May God Bless Your Family

Sincerely Yours,

Dr. Grace G. Dawson

These are thoughts that came to me in random form tonight..Not a poem but words that I was impelled to write. I give this part of my private sorrow for you father.

I have written many songs

I have shared my love and faith

The road to salvation need not be long

We shall indeed see a brighter day

My words shall never become a distant memory

I have left my mark upon this world in the hearts of everyone I touched

Will you pass this knowledge along?

Waste not a single day, for those we love need to know that they are indeed loved and cherished

A simple phone call or perhaps even a card will do wonders for a lonely heart

God is my foundation

God is the only way to what light this earthly body shall wield

My passion is to teach our children to love and respect everyone

My goal is to let them know that they can indeed accomplish anything that can be imagined IF and only if they are willing to put forth the effort

God will take care of the rest

Build your foundation upon faith, education and you will find...All Things Are Possible...AMEN

To the Daniels Family,

It saddens me to know that Alonzo is no longer with us. He touched the heart of everyone in my family and I know that he will be truly missed. Alonzo was a very genuine person full of life and always "Praised God" with every conversation. He touched my life while he was here on earth, but even more in his death because he left such a rich legacy. He sowed many seeds into the lives of his students and anyone he knew. Words cannot express the great person that he was. I can only say that he was one of a kind and it was a pleasure to have known him nearly my whole life.

From Howard Hewett. . .In Memory of Alonzo Daniels

"Some People live like they'll never die. . . Then they die like they've never lived'

This was definitely not the way Alonzo Daniels lived his life. If you knew Alonzo, you couldn't help but know how he embraced life, and how he lived each day with the anticipation of this day.

The bible says that God watches over babies and fools, and He was definitely watching over me when He connected me with Alonzo and John Daniels. I was nineteen and looking for direction when I first came to Los Angeles. . .Mavericks Flat and the Mavericks Flat family was the perfect safe place for that. Alonzo and I would sit for hours and talk about life, about philosophies, about the scriptures and about being ready to make that transition from this adventure into the next. . . into eternity. When the group, Beverly Hills, was formed and ready to go overseas and tour, prior to leaving L.A., Alonzo took me across the street from Mavericks to the May Co. and bought me a three-piece suit. He also gave me a book called "As a Man Thinketh". He said that this is how you're supposed to represent yourself, and these are the things that you should be thinking about. His words and the knowledge in that book have followed me throughout my entire life.

I know with all my heart that Alonzo was ready to make this transition. His earthly body had taken all the wear and tear it could stand, and now he has shed that body and taken on a new one. . . one that will last thru eternity. But there's one thing that I hope he doesn't shed. . . that laugh. Alonzo and John both have laughs that will cut through any problems that you may have. . .But Alonzo would laugh that loud laugh, then stop and with piercing eyes. . .rip right thru you. . .identify the problem and then offer a solution. . .and you always knew that Alonzo would have a solution to any problem you might have.

He was my mentor, my friend, my brother in Christ, and he will be missed. . . but I'll see you again on the other side, Alonzo.

From my family to the Daniels' family, we offer our condolences for a life cut short. . .but we celebrate a life that was lived to the fullest!

God bless you all!

Dear John, Linda, Kay, Paul, and Family. God bless you and yours in the Holy Name of Christ at this time of grief and sorrow as Brother Alonzo physically leaves this earthly plain to be with the Lord, in the Spirit.

As we all know, Alonzo was a very special man with many extraordinary gifts, and a heart of gold. He would give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it. I spent many wonderful years working, growing, and sharing life with Alonzo. He had an exceptional capacity to teach, entertain, and love. When you were in his midst, his persuasive personality usually prevailed. His love for people was immense, and his positive impact on young people was second to none.

Among his many creative contributions to our contemporary youth culture, "Say No To Drugs," was the one the "system" liked most. Alonzo sent this slogan to President Reagan, and his wife Nancy championed this catchphrase that has for nearly two decades been an anthem to effectively help stem the tide of teenage drug use.

Alonzo's spirit remains with those of us who knew him and loved him, and after all, when it's all said and done, all that counts is the Spirit.

I'm sorry I can't be with you in the flesh, but I am indeed with you in the spirit. May God Bless your family, now and forever more.

Much Love, In Christ

Thank you for the fine example you exhibited of showing a strong caring, and loving family. I'm sorry ALONZO was called home so soon. He touched, shaped, and changed so many lives. I'm sure God had a special reason for moving him from earth to Heaven, and we don't question Why! Alonzo's devotion to Special Education students proved that they were special in that all were endowed with gifts and talents that he was able to inspire them to develop.
