Rev. Alvin G. Martin

REV. ALVIN G. MARTIN Age 76, of East Chicago, formerly of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, joined his Heavenly Father, peacefully in his sleep at home on Tuesday morning, December 21, 2004. Rev. Martin was an Ordained Minister and served not only members of his congregation, but the entire communities of East Chicago, Hammond and Gary. He belonged to many organizations; he served honorably in the Armed Forces; and received his Associate and Bachelor's Degrees from Trinity Baptist College. A beautiful and charming young lady named Ms. Birdie Jane Glass caught Alvin's eye and he knew this was his "Peaches and Cream." They married in 1946 and remained steadfast in their love for one another until God took him home. Memories will forever be in the hearts of his "Peaches," Wife, Mrs. Birdie J. Martin; 7 devoted and caring children, Alvin Wayne Martin, Boston, MA, Marcia G. (Arlis) Trent, Grand Prairie, TX, Stephen A. Martin, East Chicago, Cary A. (Jennifer) Martin Jr., Indianapolis, IN, Rev. Bruce D. (Josie) Martin, Gary, IN, Rev. Gregory L. (Donna) Martin, Gary, IN, and Taryn J. (Bronson) Howard, Everret, WA. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grand-children; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends including Rev. John E. Dawkins, Florence LaBroi, Linda Frazier, Sabrina Reed, Anthony King, and Rev. Dian K. Wallace. Rev. Martin had many, many special friends and the family wishes they could name each and everyone of you, but that is impossible. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2004, at the Allen Funeral Home. Family Hour from 6-7 p.m. at Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 7:15-8:30 p.m. a Tribute Praise Service. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at the Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. J.C. Wade presiding and Rev. L.E. Wynn, eulogy, of Quindaro, Kansas City, KS. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery, in Gary, IN. Rev. Martin loved his family, neighbors, friends, church family and even those who laid obstacles in his path.
