Katic, Annie "Ana" "Anka" Annie Katic, 84, of Hammond, Indiana, died Thursday, January 15, 2015 after a brief hospitalization. Annie was born on January 26, 1931 in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada and grew up in Lika, Croatia. She is survived by her son, Peter Katic at home; daughter, Mary (Joseph) Lubek; and grandchildren, Jordan and Roseann (fiance Ryan) Lubek, all of Reno, NV; eldest sister, Kata (Ely) Bacic of Windsor, Canada; nephews and nieces, all in Ontario, Canada: Marlene, Linda, Dusan, George, Nikola, Madeline Ann, Anne Marie, Georgina, Patricia, Nikola and Donna; brothers-in-law, Milan (late Marija) Vujovic and Josip (late Ivanka) Zarkovic; and sister-in-law, Mari (late George) Novacich, all of Ontario, Canada; brother-in-law, Nikola (Boja) Katic of Batajnica, Serbia; sisters-in-law, Dusanka (late Ilija) Katie and Jelena (late Petar) Tutus, both locally; nephews and nieces from her uncle, Jakov Novacic: Marilyn, Kathleen, George, John, Ken and Lydia, all locally; nephews and nieces from husband, Vaso's side: Marija, Mirjana, Milan, Milorad, Eli, Nick, Dusan, Milica and Danica, locally and throughout the U.S. as well as many nephews and nieces in Serbia; many relatives in Gospic, Lika, Croatia; Kumovi (matrimonial and baptismal) Danica (late Ilija) Kalinic and family of Schererville, and many family, Kumovi and friends throughout the U.S., Canada, Croatia and Serbia. Preceded in death by husband, Vaso (2010); and daughter, Nada (2001); parents, Nikola and Aune (nee Ahti) Novacic; brother, George Novacich; sisters, Marija Vujovic and Ivanka Zarkovic, all from Ontario, Canada. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 22, 2015 at NOON, DIRECTLY at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Schererville, IN with Very Rev. Dobrivoje Milunovic officiating. At rest, Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN. Friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lincoln Ridge Funeral Home, 7607 West Lincoln Hwy., Schererville, IN (Rt. 30 east of Cline Ave.). Pomen prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Annie was employed at Simmons Co., Budd Co. and Trakker Co. before retirement. She was a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Schererville, the Church and Chetnik Kolos and the Serbian National Federation Lodge #171. Ana was the 2nd of 5 children born to her parents. Her family visited her maternal grandparents in Finland in 1933 before settling in Gospic, Lika in former Yugoslavia, with her paternal grandparents, where she graduated from business school. She and eldest sister, Kata returned to their native Canada in 1951, where she married Vaso, and they raised their 3 children in Windsor, Ontario, moving to East Chicago in 1963. She was proud of her son's government and legal career as well as her daughter's upbringing of her beloved grandchildren. Anka loved knitting and crocheting, gardening and canning peppers. Loved ones will fondly remember her gifts of handmade slippers. Ana radiated in singing folk songs with her brother and sisters and was the lead dancer and singer in the "Licko Kolo". She enjoyed watching all sports and was an avid White Sox, Bulls, Bears, Maple Leafs and Blackhawks fan. She traveled frequently to visit family in Canada, Nevada, Croatia and Serbia. Annie visited her village and family in Lika in 2012 and as recently as 3 months ago, passing this life with many cherished memories. Anka will be deeply missed by family, Kumovi and many friends on this continent and abroad as she is now reunited with her husband, Vaso, and their beloved daughter, Nada, along with parents, Nikola and Aune "Ana" and siblings, Marija, Ivanka, and George. Vjecnaja Pamjat! Memory Eternal!
