Craig Hurt Obituary

Hurt, Craig Milo Was born on July 31, 1954 in Chicago Illinois to Henry and Delphine (Boyd) Hurt. Craig spent the beginning of his life in East Chicago Indiana, and was raised in Gary, Indiana. He found a passion for playing basketball and golf at a young age. Craig graduated from Westside High School in 1972 and a few months later met Sandra Gray. Craig married Sandra in January of 1973, and out of that union, they produced three children. Craig was a proud Marine and served his country for 11 years. He would've served longer, but was honorably discharged due to an injury. His career in the military relocated him from the Midwest, to sunny Camarillo, California, where he grew roots, and raised his family. Golf was Craig's true passion. He enjoyed sports (especially basketball), playing chess, and debating. Craig was very intelligent, analytical, and insightful. He had a passion for learning, a heart of gold, and was as real as real could get. Craig transitioned on to be with the Lord Friday, March 21 2014, and will be deeply missed! Craig was preceded in death by mother, Delphine Boyd and sister, Carla Hurt. Survived by father(s), John Boyd and Henry Hurt; ex wife and lifetime friend, Sandra Hurt; three children, Randall (Dana) Hurt, Shaurie Hurt, David (DC) Hurt; sister, Jenae (Frank) McKnight; brother, John Boyd, Jr.; honorary brother and best friend, Eric Mansfield; six grandchildren, Darius, Amari, Millani, Kasen, Devyn, and Rayen, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and friends.

I was a Hospital Corpsman stationed with the Inspector/Instructor staff at Port Hueneme, CA where I met Craig for the first time. I asked him to clarify his last name. I said, is it H-U- R-T? He said yes, "as in pain" we became fast friends. We played basketball all the time. He was a big man and very difficult to move around the court. We became friends with him and his family. Sandra and the kids were so wonderful and we enjoyed our two years there with them. I was thinking about Craig today and wanted to see if I could find him. I had no idea he had passed away and I am so sorry to hear this. Craig was a gentle giant and had one of the best personalities I could imagine. I want to express my deepest and sincerest sympathies to Sandra and your family for your loss. I know this is a belated message but I really wanted you to know how special he was to me and my life. I know you miss him every day and I wish I could take away some of your pain. I wish you all very well and feel free to contact me at any time. Chris Jensen
