Danny McDowell Obituary
Danny was born in Gary, Indiana to John and Daisy McDowell. He was the youngest of three children. There was a separation of marriage and at a later date Daisy united with Joseph Williams Jr. Danny attended Charles R. Drew Elementary, Bailly Junior High, Lew Wallace Senior High and Northern Illinois University where he attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. While in college, he met Saundra Wheeler, married and relocated to Chicago. To this union, a son Brandon, was born. Whom Dan loved. Through life changes, Dan moved back to Gary, Indiana. Dan found employment with Property Liquidators which lasted several years. It was during this time he met his Lady Love Tamra and her daughter Tameshia, Together, they formed a lasting family. Along the years, unfortunately, Dan battled two bouts with cancer and a heart attack. At each encounter, Tammy was by his side. Not one to sit around, Dan became employed with Tiberon Trails Apartment Homes. It was during this time he became ill again and took sick leave to fight his battle. Dan fought a courageous battle. When Dan succumbed, he was surrounded by love. He is survived bv his Lady Love Tamra, son Gunnery Sergeant Brandon, daughter Tameshia, grandson Brandon (Lil Chief) and granddaughter Princess Geniya, sister Cheryl, brother Tony Sims, niece Brandy and great niece Diamond. A host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Friday, August 12, 2022, Smith, Bizzell and Warner Funeral Home 4209 Grant Street, Gary IN 46408, with Family Hours from 5pm to 7pm. Funeral service will be held Saturday August 13, 2022, Van Burn Missionary Baptist Church 2585 Van Buren Street Gary, IN 46407 with Viewing from 9:00am to 11:00am and Funeral Service at 11:00am. www.smithbizzellwarnerfuneralhome.com

Danny and I were friends for many many years. I followed him from Drew, to Bailley and to Lew Wallace. He is my Big Brother. I could recognize him from a mile away, which I did in Menards. Nobody walked like Danny. He is a gentle giant with a soft voice, infectious laugh and smile. Rest My Brother. May God Bless you and your family.
