Eddie Simmons

1935 - 2022

Eddie Simmons, 87, a long time Gary, Indiana and Livingston, Alabama resident, transitioned to eternal life on Sunday, December 18, 2022. Born on November 27, 1935, in Livingston, Alabama; the son of Jerry and Mary (Eason) Simmons. Eddie was employed by Lauria Brothers for Bethlehem Steel with over 35 years of dedicated service. Eddie was a God-fearing man that loved the Lord and the Church. He devoted over 30 years in assisting with facility management of the church building and grounds. Eddie was truly a loved and blessed man. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Nellie Mae (Chaney) Simmons. He is survived by his loving children, Vanessa (Thomas) Mitchell, Patricia (Keith) Murphy, Michelle (Cletis) Woodson and Gerald L. (Tracie) Simmons; grandchildren Yolanda (Greg) Hutchins, Curtis (Angela) Williams, Erica (Ibrahim) Tawfeek, Jennifer (Matthew) Green, Keith O'Brien (Simona) Murphy and Lindsey Simmons; and great-grandchildren Jakareon Williams, Rachel Hutchins, Xavier Williams, Alina Williams, Caleb Green, Caylin Green, Asher Green and Ezra Green, Imani Murphy and Infinity Tawfeek; two sisters, Annie Key and Mattie L. Hamp and a host of nieces and nephews. Eddie was also preceded in death by his wife of 20 years Irene (McIntire) Simmons, in which he was blessed to embrace two additional sons Irvin "Dione" McIntire and Isaac "Tommie" McIntire; grandchild of love. Homegoing services will be held Thursday December 29, 2022, at East Glen Park Church of Christ 505 E. 45 th Avenue Gary, Indiana. The wake will begin at 9am until 10:45am. Services will start at 11am.
