Jerome Gholson

1937 - 2018

Jerome Gholson was born August 20, 1937 to his late parents Robbie and Robert Lee Gholson. Jerome was the sixth of thirteen children. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brothers Bob and Richard. The Gholsons were members of Delaney Methodist Church. It was there that Jerome accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. Jerome attended Roosevelt High School. He graduated as an honor student in 1955. While in high school, Jerome played the clarinet in the band and served as Senior Class Vice-President. Golf was his favorite sport. Other hobbies included swimming, playing the piano, and listening to his favorite jazz artists then creating his own arrangements. Jerome and Jacky Taylor became high school sweethearts in 1954 and were joined in holy matrimony on January 28, 1961 by the late Reverend Robert E. Lowery. From this union, three children were born: Jerri, Jana, and Jaron. Upon graduation, Jerome attended Indiana and Howard Universities. He received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army. His Master's Degree was earned at IUN shortly thereafter. A teaching career at Marquette Elementary School spanned 32 years. Those who will cherish his memory are his devoted and loving family, Jacquelyn wife of 57 years, three children, Jerri, Jana, and Jaron (Quatanah), two brothers, Frederick (Betty), and Edward (Latrice), eight sisters Berta, Dorothy, Frances (Marcus), Robbie, Gwendolyn, Linda, Pearl, and Debra. A host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends will also miss him dearly. Services Tuesday January 16, 2018 at St. Timothy Community Church, 2500 Grant Street, Gary, IN 46404. Visitation 9a.m.-11a.m. (viewing 9-10a.m.) Celebration of Life 11a.m. - Noon. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park.
