I don't even know where to start. We have known each other for ten years. You started off as my boss at Meijer. I remember I you were marking clearance for a department and it was my first week at Meijer, I was told to go find you and learn how to make tags. We had a lot of trash from the tags, you asked me to hurry and find something to put the trash in before the store director sees it on the ground. (The store director was walking towards us) Without thinking I grabbed the first thing I could and shoved all the trash in it. The day went on and it was my time to go home.. I went to work the next day, you came to find me. Michel looked me dead in the eyes and reached in his work fleece pulling out all the trash I forgot I put in there and started dancing like Carlton from The Fresh Prince. We both busted up laughing about it. From that day on we became good friends. Our friendship grew apart as I moved away and you moved back to Fort Wayne. We stayed in touch but like most friendships we drifted apart. A week before you passed something told me I needed to reach out to you, I never did, I was too caught up in my life. I regret not reaching out to you before you left this earth. I will never understand why a person as good as you had to leave earth. I'll cherish every memory. Michel, you will never be forgotten.

Michel was honestly my very first genuine friend in the state of Indiana. My son and I moved to IN from MD, and it was an incredibly lonely start to our new lives. Making friends is harder as an adult, and seemed harder in my new home state than it had been in MD. Thank God for Michel, who began as my boss at Meijer, and ended up planning and hosting my very first night on the town on my 21st birthday, along with my twin sister who flew in. From then on, we were very close friends. Life tends to get in the way of us making time to nurture friendships, and so it went with ours. We hadn't spoken in over a year, and as it goes, the regret is profound. But I won't let that cloud my sweet memories with one of the last few GOOD men to have walked this earth. He was a valiant, fiercely loyal, brilliant man while he was here, and his cup ran over with love.
I am so sad that he had to go.
I love you, and I'll be seeing you my friend.
