Valerie McConnell Obituary

VALERIE LYNN McCONNELL Age 24 years, of Chesterton, formerly of Hebron, IN. Valerie was born July 28, 1980. She departed this life Sunday, August 22, 2004. An alumna of Boone Grove High School, Valerie successfully completed her GED. She was a member of the Pro Cathedral Church of St. Andrew. Ever the non-conformist and student of life, she sought her own path. She was an avid artist, enjoying drawing, painting, sculpting, creating beautiful works from everyday materials. Having resided in Lexington for a few years, she added an appreciation for horses and love of (UK) college basketball. Valerie loved pyschology and planned to pursue an education and eventual career in counseling and helping others. There was always a place in her heart for lost puppies and wayward souls; always a big hug ready and waiting. Valerie was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Earl McConnell and Robert Erickson, great aunt, Helen Erickson, and godfather, Larry Yost. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Violet; her father, Daniel; mother, Debbie; and sister, Jennifer McConnell; her grandmother, Mary McConnell; godmother, Imo Yost; and many other relatives and friends, who will greatly miss her smiling face and loving heart. Visitation Thursday, August 26, 2004 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point. Funeral services Friday, August 27, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pro Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew, 8555 Grand Boulevard, Merrillville, the Most Rev. Dr. Larry L. Shaver and the Very Rev. Mark A. Langbehn, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Violet McConnell Benefit Fund at any Centier Bank location.
