David Schuh Obituary

David Schuh

Appleton - David Schuh, age 84, of Appleton, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021. He was born in December 1936 in Appleton, the son of Clarence and Margaret. He attended Appleton High School followed by Marquette University in Milwaukee, graduating in 1960. Dave married Rosemary in October 1960 at St. Therese Church, Appleton. He started his mechanical engineering career with Kimberly-Clark in Neenah, then the family moved to Memphis, TN and Pittsfield, MA when Dave was transferred for his job. He worked on paper machines all over the world. Dave and his family moved back to Appleton in 1976 and he retired from Kimberly-Clark in 1996.

Dave's kindness and generosity were seemingly unlimited. He was constantly on the go and couldn't sit still. He always had a song in his head and he was often heard singing or humming. He never turned down a chance to play his favorite card game, 3-13. He cooked so much Nueske's bacon for his family that his grandchildren affectionately dubbed him "Grandpa Bacon."

He was a member of the STM church choir for many decades. He performed onstage in the annual Christmas Stars musical show for over 25 years. The rehearsal schedule was very demanding for three months leading up to the show and he loved every minute of it. He purchased tickets for any family or friends who asked, and if you visited his home in late December he was proud to play the DVD of the show for you while singing along. He and Rosemary enjoyed traveling to visit family and to explore the rest of the world.

Dave loved spending time at the family's cottage in Eagle River, which he and Rosemary have owned since the late 1980s. He especially enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, catching lots of perch and having a fish fry. He cherished time spent with his family and friends more than anything and was always happiest when everyone was together. He will be very deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dave is survived by his loving family: two daughters, Sandy (Mark) Hanson, Kaukauna, WI and Judy (Liam) Collins, Waunakee, WI; one son, Kevin (Sue) Schuh, Cary, NC; seven grandchildren, Alyssa (Travis) Johnson, Brittany (Corey) Macrander, Brett Hanson, Tyler (Mariah) Sheehy, Kiera, Megan and Aidan Collins; one great-grandchild, Madeline Macrander and two more great-grandchildren on the way; one sister, Barb (Ron) Murphy, Appleton, WI; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann (Tom) Wavernek, Oconomowoc, WI, and Barb Roegner, Tulsa, OK; three brothers-in-law, Jerry Boone, Appleton, WI, Bob Kohrman, Marietta, GA and Mark (Debby) Roegner, West Bend, WI,; and one son-in-law, Eddy Hughes, Beavercreek, OH. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Margaret; his wife of 55 years, Rosemary; his daughter, Suzanne Schuh-Hughes; his brother, Andy; his sister, Charlotte Boone; Rosemary's parents, Henry and Ermina Roegner; sisters-in-law Diane Kohrman and Dianne Roegner; and brothers-in-law Larry Roegner, Floyd Roegner and John Roegner.

Resurrection Mass will be held on Friday February 19, 2021 at 11 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N. McDonald St., Appleton. Private interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton. Visitation Friday, February 19, 2021 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, from 10 AM until time of Mass. Dave will be missed by all of us in the STM CHOIR. He was wonderful to direct. His upbeat self, full of music, was a joy to be around. R. I. P. Dave!

Larry and I always enjoyed traveling with Rosemary & Dave. Then when we lost Larry & Rosemary we were both lost so we called each other about once a month. I will really miss him. I send my love to the Schuh family. Sorry I couldn't come.

Our sympathy to all the Schuh family. Dave and Rosemary were wonderful neighbors across the street in Appleton and across the lake in Eagle River. We always enjoyed talking fishing and family. He will be missed.

I used to direct the St. Thomas More Choir and recently sang in the resurrection choir with Dave. He is, by far, the kindest, most thoughtful human being I had the honor of knowing. Keep singing in Heaven, dear Dave! Love, Laura Luedeke

I have known David since I was a little girl, because his younger sister, Barb, was/is my best friend. He had a fun way of teasing us with that twinkle in his eyes. His love of music was already in evidence at St. Therese School when he performed in the concerts and programs.
Faith and family were the pillars of his life.
Dave, may your singing heart add a new resonance to the heavenly choir!

We are saddened to hear of the passing of our friend Dave. He came to the funeral of my mother-in-law 2 weeks ago at St. Edward's in Mackville. We had a nice chat about the Christmas Stars show and that he was looking forward to being in the cast/choir again this fall. We talked about the many wonderful times during the Christmas Stars shows/rehearsals and also when we would stop at Good Company for a beverage after rehearsals & shows with others from the cast. Dave was a kind hearted soul who would always ask how you and your family were doing. He is now singing with Dave Stanek and Mike Hurley (Christmas Stars cast members who are also with the Lord). He will be greatly missed.

What a wonderful man, friend, and work associate. I miss running into him at the grocery and the back of church. Sweet memories of our preschooler son snuggling up to him on a swing looking out on the lake at their cottage in the late 80's. RIP, Dave.

Dave will be missed! I performed with him in Christmas Stars. Our chairs were side by side in the "Dressing Room". I was lucky to have spent much quality time with him between scenes. He was the most caring and thoughtful man I've ever met. I do and will think of him often. I am sad that this year of social distancing kept me from meeting with him once more prior to his departure. Thank you for great memories Dave.
