Becker, Eugene Alan

Eugene Alan Becker, of Elcho, died Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Woodland Court in Merrill. He was 77 years old. He was born on September 28, 1933 in Madison a son of the late Harvey and Esther (Pufhal) Becker. He married Janet Hinsenkamp on December 17, 1955 in Madison. She preceded him in death on January 27, 1999.

Mr. Becker was raised on a farm in Madison. He attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He served in the United States Army from June 11, 1953 to April 25, 1955 during the Korean War. On June 23, 1958 he became a Patrol Officer for the Milwaukee Police Department and retired as a Detective Lieutenant on May 28, 1987. After retirement he moved to Elcho.

He was a member of the Milwaukee Police Supervisors Association and Holy Family Catholic Church, Elcho.

He loved to work in the woods, using lumber from his land he made over 120 cribbage tables for fundraisers, family and friends and cradles for his grandchildren. He was very involved with his grandchildren, showing them osprey and eagle nests and rescuing turtles from the middle of the road.

Survivors include a daughter, Kerry (Tony) Borowski, Menasha; six sons, Jay (Marcia) Becker, Antigo, Tracy (Lisa) Becker, Milwaukee, Kirby Becker, Antigo, Nicholas (Debbie) Becker, Menomonee Falls, Matthew (Carmen) Becker, Elcho, and Brad (Melanie) Becker, Merrill; 17 grandchildren, Tony Borowski, Sarah (Ryan) Stoltenow, Maggie (Mark) Ayotte, Laura and Vincent Borowski, Jessica and Michelle Becker, Kate (William) Henry, Shane (Wendy) Becker, Cory (Stephanie) Becker, Colin Becker, Aimee (Aaron) Krzywicki, Valerie and Jeremy Becker, Austin and Faith Becker, and Aiden Becker; eight great-grandchildren, Emily, Jacob and Aubrey Henry, Alexis, Riley, Lydia and Quinn Becker and Cayden Stoltenow; a sister, Jeanette Wilson, Arkansas; and a brother, Richard (Sandy) Becker, Montello.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Vincent in infancy, and Dennis Becker in 2005.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Elcho with Rev. Jeremiah Worman officiating. Burial will take place in Elcho Cemetery with Elcho veterans conducting military rites. Visitation will be 3:30 - 8 p.m. on Friday at the Bradley Funeral Home and 9 - 10 a.m. on Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Elcho. A parish wake service will be held at Friday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Woodland Court Elder Services for the care and comfort given to their dad over the last three years.
