Punt, Gary A. (1953-2015)

Safely Home, Gary Alan Punt, 61, of Appleton, WI passed peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday, August 1, 2015. Gary was born October 8, 1953 in Grand Rapids, MI to Neal and Betty Punt. He married his wife, Sue on August 25, 1979.

He is survived by his wife, Sue (Williamson); two sons and daughters-in-law, Nathan and Carolyn (Hassemer) Punt, of Boise, ID; Matthew and Destiny (Hetcher) Punt, of Appleton, WI, and one grandson, Lucas Gary Punt, of Boise, ID, his parents, Neal and Betty (DeYoung) Punt, of Grand Haven, MI; 5 siblings, Jan (Bill) Buikema, James (Gail) Punt, Beth (Dave) Huisenga, Gordon (Meg) Punt, Laura (Mike) Stoub, Brian and Judy (Williamson) Wolf; and many nieces and nephews.

Gary was a steadfast and gracious man. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all. Gary made light of any situation that came his way and always put a smile on your face. Gary was the most selfless man that you would have ever met. Even with his circumstances, he was always more concerned about everyone else before him. Gary fought the good fight. He won the race, and now is able to enjoy all that Christ has promised.

There will be a memorial service for family and friends at Valley Baptist Church, 3600 Chippewa St, Appleton, WI on Sunday, August 9, 2015 beginning promptly at 6 p.m. with fellowship to follow. During this time the family would like to celebrate Gary's life with those he was able to touch and requests the presence of family and friends that were blessed to know him. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.

Sue, we haven't been in touch for years. When I arrived in Appleton on Satuday from my home in Colorado, my sister told me she had seen your husband obituary. I was so sorry to hear of your husbands death. My husband has been sick the last 20 years and we almost lost him a couple of times. It is difficult to imagine life without him and I am sure it will be difficult for a long time. I will be praying and thinking for you all.

I haven't had the opportunity to see Gary for many years, but when we were young, and both still single, we saw a lot of each other. I have wonderful memories of that time.
