John Lauer Obituary

John H. Lauer Jr.

Neenah - John Henry Lauer, Jr., 80 years old, passed away on May 19, 2021, from Alzheimer's.

John was born in Neenah on July 26, 1940 to the late John and Eleanor (Gray) Lauer, Sr. He was united in marriage to Marlene Pinkert on September 1, 1962. He was a Charter member of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, Neenah.

John was a carpenter by trade, beginning his work with the family business, Lauer Bros. Inc. and continuing with Utschig Inc. Having a desire to organize and represent fellow union members, John began working as a Business Representative for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and proudly held the position until his retirement. John served the labor and trade communities for 60 years, holding various positions with Carpenters Local 955, Fox Valley Labor Council and President of the Neenah Labor Temple Co-op until Alzheimer's ended that responsibility for him. John fought hard for the rights of workers and fair pay. We are proud of his dedication to working people. Always known to hold multiple jobs, John decided to work during his retirement. He served as the Labor Liaison for Fox Valley Technical College and was a driver for Morton Pharmacy where he delivered medications to nursing homes.

For years, John refereed local youth and college soccer games. He was inducted into the Neenah Soccer Hall of Fame in 2013.

John was so proud of the accomplishments of his children. His face would light up when he saw or spoke of his grandchildren. He cherished the time with them, taking them to museums, Menominee Park and to the movies.

John leaves behind his wife, Marlene; children: Michael (Alison Craig), Denny (Marnie) and Melissa (Billy Hagberg); grandchildren: Bailee Lauer (Shawn Davis), Keegan Lauer, Maya Craig-Lauer, and Caleb Craig-Lauer; and a great-grandson, Clark Lauer-Davis. He is further survived by his sister, Lori (Joe) Hager, Aunt Carmen Seymour and cousins.

John showed his love for his family by offering advice, providing care and sharing stories and laughs with them.

He had some wonderful neighbors as friends, especially his "buddy" Jerry.

Special thanks to Parkside Senior Living facility and AsceraCare Hospice (especially Tammy), for their loving care and tender touch.

There will be a private family service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested for the Alzheimer's Association.
