Peter Hagen Obituary

Peter Hagen

Appleton - Peter Heit Hagen, 77, passed away peacefully Friday, January 29, 2021, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born February 16, 1943, to George and Margaret (Heit) Hagen in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. He graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1961 and attended Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. He married Diane Hewitt December 23, 1976 at First English Lutheran Church. They had just celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary. He worked as a systems analyst for Valley Bank Corporation. Later, he made a career change and he retired as an AODA counselor for Theda Care Behavioral Health.

Peter was passionate about golf. He golfed regularly with his wife Diane and close group of golf buddies. He was thrilled to have some of his grandchildren join him in his passion, and he got a hole in one September 9, 2014, while golfing with his grandson, Stuart. He loved to try new golf courses whenever he traveled. Peter was looking forward to spending the summer with Diane at their new vacation home in Egg Harbor and cruising the county in his new red convertible. His experience in counseling made him a patient and encouraging husband, father and grandfather. Peter is fondly remembered for his gift as a storyteller and his passion for life.

Peter is survived by his loving wife Diane; his children, Jay (Lorie) Hagen of Minerva, Ohio and Joy (Dan) Wilds of West Bend, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Erik, Rebecca and Chance Hagen, Brett (Nadia Lulubutr) Hagen, Stuart Wilds, Jade (Peter) Schrader and one great grandson. He is further survived by his sisters, Ida Maki, Mary Carol (Rudy) Bahlert and sisters-in-law, Joyce Hagen and Helen Hagen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Stuart Hagen, and his brother, George, and twin brother, John.

Due to current circumstances, private services were held. To watch a recording of the memorial service, please visit Peter's obituary page at www.wichmannfuneralhomes.com.

I golfed with Pete on Mondays and on Dale Hodek's outings. I will remember Pete as always smiling and happy. He got you in a good mood just being around him. J.B.

Jerry, a brother in golf

It's said that a noble person is one who will always do what is right, while a lesser person will always do what is in his self interest. Peter was a "noble" person. He was an honorable man; unselfish, uncomplaining, understanding; always an optimist, and a very good friend. I hope there's golf in heaven, Pete. And I hope when the time comes, we'll play a round together again.

I am very saddened by the news about Pete. I will miss our talks together. I will also miss golfing with him. We have spent many the hour together on various golf courses. Pete told me once that when we golfed together with his twin a few years ago, that it was the last time his twin golfed. And now I think I golfed with Pete the last time that he golfed. The two brothers certainly looked like twins. I will treasure the time I had with him. He was a good friend to me and to many other people. Rest in Peace, my friend.

Diane, we were so sorry to hear about Peter. Loved his smile when he drove by. Heighland Heights and Door County won’t be the same. Love and prayers.
