Robert Hallada Obituary

Robert M. Hallada

Appleton - Bob was born to William M. Hallada and Florence C. (Doersch) Hallada on February 13, 1936. He died peacefully on October 13, 2020 in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Bob graduated or received degrees from Holy Rosary Grade School, New Holstein High School, University of Wisconsin - Whitewater and Purdue University. He attended other institutions to update his knowledge and maintain his teaching license. (Often during summer school sessions that became family adventures.)

Bob married his wonderful wife, Sheila Rae (Drehmel) Hallada on June 21, 1958. They were blessed with two daughters, Ann and Lisa.

He was very privileged to work with the youth of the area. Bob taught for 36 years in the Appleton Area School District and volunteered for 18 years with AASD and Fallen Timbers Nature Center. Bob enjoyed the outdoors - scouting, hunting, fishing, camping and spending half of each year at a small cottage near Townsend. Sheila and Bob traveled extensively in retirement thanks to her wanderlust.

Bob was extremely thankful for his caring family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Their fondest memories of him include: teaching them to cook, woodworking, going as a chaperone to winter cub scout camp, making derby cars for cub scouts, riding in his big red truck, and taking family pontoon rides. He greatly enjoyed his coworkers, friends, card players, and Brewster Village family.

Bob is survived by his daughters: Ann (Ray) Hill and Lisa (David) Stolp. as well as his grandchildren: Joshua and Daniel Hill and Becca Stolp (Tristen Marcell).

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Brewster Village for all their love and care.

Per Bob's wishes, a private burial will be held at a later date.

Bob and Sheila are old old friends. They were very dear to my heart. Both smart as a whip. Good faith filled people. In Appleton West HS there was a room dedicated for the teachers called the Early American Room. We would meet there monthly. Our friendship started with the new teachers group.

Learned about much more than chemistry in his class in 1978-1979 at Appleton East. Loved his definition of equilibrium - and I smile whenever I think of it!

To the family - please know that he touched many more people than you will ever imagine.
Thank you for sharing him with us. We will all hold onto the memories!

May he Rest In Peace.

Bob ( Mr. Hallada to our class ) was my Chemistry teacher the 1968 -1969 School year at Appleton East. He made the subject interesting and accessible to the class while also having high expectations for learning. He was also just a good guy who you could talk to and feel like he cared about your individual learning. He had fun as well with some chemical reactions under the vent hood that really got everyone's attention! I'm sure all who were close to him through the years will miss him and have good memories of his life and teaching.

Bob was a good guy. A few years back we would see Bob and Sheila at St. Joseph Church in Appleton. Both were very nice people. God Bless.

I taught one year in Appleton and Bob gave me some advise. "Don't smile the first semester...and don't smile the second semester."

Mr. Hallada was one of those teachers you remember for a lifetime. I still enjoy telling stories of his Advanced Chemistry Lab class at Appleton East ('81-82) which my friends and I attended. He approved experiments that quite frankly surprised us at the time, and likely wouldn't fly today. But our interest in chemistry was hooked. I ended up going to college for Microbiology, but had a minor in chemistry. And I worked the first 9+ years of my career as a Chemist, a role I was not expecting in life, but well prepared for after the foundation and interest Mr. Hallada instilled in me. I know I am but one of the countless lives Mr Hallada touched, but it was an honor to be his student. To all the friends and family who've lost their loved one I offer my sincerest condolences, he was indeed a gem.

Bob was a good friend and colleague at East High School. I will remember times hunting in the early years. Rest in peace.

Mr. Hallada was the best teacher I had: thoughtful, caring, and enthusiastic about his subject. RIP, Bob.

I absolutely cherished my chemistry class time with Mr. Hallada. He always made it practical! He loved the word crazy, and every time I stand on a street corner I think of him telling us about the toxic hydrocarbons that we breath when cars “peel out” and emit the rubber molecules.

Without the wonderful chemistry foundation he gave me as a junior in high school, I would have never made it through nursing school!!!! I know he would smile if he knew I married a chemist, who went through Boy Scouts with all 5 of our boys!!!!
