Shirley Jeffers Obituary

Shirley Rogers Jeffers, 85, New London, passed away on Jan. 1, 2012, at St. Joseph's Nursing Home in New London.

Mom was born Dec. 21, 1926, in Appleton, to William and Edna Rogers. She attended Appleton High School, graduating in 1944. After high school, she worked at Montgomery Ward in the credit department and it was during this time that she met her future husband, Dean Jeffers. They were married on June 6, 1951, together raised six children and were married for 52 years. Dad died in 2004.

Mom was an excellent cook, devoted friend and eager volunteer. One of her greatest and perhaps finest qualities is that she was liked, admired and appreciated by everyone who met her, making even the latest person she met feel like they had been friends for a lifetime. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge, watching "Pat and Vanna", going on trips with Kathryn and mostly being with her family. She was a devout Catholic and a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Stephen (Sue), Kathryn, Patrick (Tina), Mark (Guy), Michael (Joy) and Robert (Jan); her brother, John; sisters-in-law, Arlene and Donna; brother-in-law, Jim (Corrinne); as well as many wonderful grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and local friends. Her daughters-in-law treated Mom with dignity and grace.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, James Malliet; husband, Dean; brother, Tom; Kathryn's partner, Paul; and many sisters and brothers-in-law, all of whom she is now reunited with eternally.

Mom's life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in New London, with Father David Lewis officiating. Her burial will be at the church cemetery next to her husband. A visitation for Shirley will be held on Thursday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

Our family wishes to extend it's heartfelt thanks to the remarkable staffs of St. Joseph Nursing Home and Heartland Hospice and Mom's lifelong friends who were there for her with offers of a ride, to go out for a meal or simply just to talk. She loved you for that. We loved her and will miss her.

Until we meet again Mom, please know that our heartfelt thanks go with you.

In lieu of any flowers, please remember Mom with a donation to the American Alzheimer's Association in her name.

Dear Jeffers Family,

God Bless you all in this time of great loss and unending love. The story of your Mom's life written here was so vivid! I know that among many other things, it represents treasured memories all of you, her friends and her commuity will hold of her forever.
It is her beautiful eyes, her wit, laugh and grace that have been coming to me over these days, and I need only bring you to mind to see how she is reflected and lives on in each of you.
Hope you are doing as best as can be, and I trust you will reach out if I can help in any way. I will see you at the church on Thursday; know that you are all being raised up in daily prayer.
Also, my Mom (Clara) and sister (Colleen) send their love, prayers and sympathy to your family and friends. With deep love, care and support for you all, now and always.
