Thomas Schewe Obituary

Thomas R. Schewe, age 72, of Clintonville passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 4, 2019 at his home.

Thomas Ray Schewe was born on April 14, 1946 in Clintonville to Lawrence and Erma (Jueds) Schewe. He grew up and went to school in Clintonville. Tom was united in marriage on September 5, 1965 to Nancy K. Niemuth at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Town of Dupont. The couple lived in Appleton and Green Bay for a short time and settled in Clintonville in 1977. He owned and operated Tom Schewe Trucking of Clintonville for over 35 years. Nancy worked with Tom for many years until her passing on December 10, 1996. In 2002 Tom became a special friend to Diane Arneson; and they shared close to 12 years, until she passed away in 2014.

Tom was a longtime member of Christus Lutheran Church, Clintonville. His favorite hobby and passion was flying his airplanes; whether it was taking his grandkids for a ride, flying to breakfast in Shawano, or Iola for Friday lunch with friends.

Tom enjoyed trucking, flying, working on his land, cutting firewood, and taking walks through the woods with family and his dog Freckles. He especially liked taking the grandkids for Gator rides and tobogganing in the winter. Tom will be remembered most as a loving and caring person who would help anyone when in need. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and a proud grandfather.

Survivors include four daughters; Laurie (Joel) Henschel of Clintonville, Krissy (Michael) Mehlberg of Clintonville, Carrie (Chad) Hildeman of Appleton, and Jodie (Tyler) Laatsch of New London. There are 8 grandchildren: Amanda (fiancé Chris), Kathryn, Morgan, Allison, Nathan, Brianna, Hayden, and Cameron. There are six siblings; Karen (Phil) Lenhart of Watersmeet, MI, Larry (Barb) Schewe of Greenville, Kay (Jim) Stern of Greenville, Peggy (Jim) Stueck of Clintonville, Cathie (Greg) Gill of Appleton, and Connie (Don) Dineen of Greenville. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Tom is preceded in death by his parents; wife Nancy; granddaughter Melissa; father and mother-in-law, Harold and Ruby Niemuth.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 11th at 11:00 AM at Christus Lutheran Church, Clintonville. Rev. Brian Crocker will officiate and burial will follow at Roseland Cemetery, Town of Dupont. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home and on Friday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church. Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville, is assisting with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred in Tom’s memory to the American Cancer Society or Salvation Army.

This guy touched the hearts of a lot of people, whether he realized it or not. Good memories growing up visiting the Schewe's as my parents were friends with Tom and Nancy. Always fun to see the new projects and "toys." Boy, that goes way back. Sincerest thoughts and sympathy to you all..Tom was a fantastic person and glad he was a part of our life.

During my exchange year I didnt only gain another family, I also gained another grandfather. Grandpa treated me like one of his granddaughters and made me feel like a part of his family. He was always there when he was needed but beyond that I enjoyed all we did together like going for a walk, trying to learn golfing with Morgan or just picking up some pot pies in town. It was wonderful to have a grandfather being so much part of my daily life. I am so thankful I got to know him! I miss him so much!

Our daughter lived last year as an exchange student in the family of his daughter Krissy and spent a lot of time with Tom. When we visited her last spring, he generously opened his heart and house to us. We would have loved to have given him back the warmth he had received during his planned visit to Switzerland next year. We will miss him! At the same time we are grateful that we were able to get to know him at all.

Tom became "family" when our son married his daughter! He was a wonderful grandpa to all of his grandchildren and his love for them was so apparent. His gator rides were legendary and will always be remembered by all of our grandchildren. Our grandson thought that every plane he saw in the sky was Tom! I will miss seeing Tom at family functions. Such a kind and gentle man.

I am so very sorry for Tom's family. Tom was truly a class act. Very kind, friendly and truly a wonderful business man. I have known Tom for nearly 30 years. Always a man of his word and a true example of how to treat a customer. Tom and I were suppose to have lunch soon but Tom that will have to wait until we meet again someday in heaven. God bless you Tom!

I'm so sorry to hear about Tom Passing. He has been a wonderful friend and occasional mentor for advice on flying, traveling or trucking. I have never had a kinder friend who truly cared about others. We met often at Iola lunches, or Shawano breakfasts. Just a few weeks ago I sought his advice about a hangar I was considering. He will be greatly missed.

Uncle Tom was always the most kind and respectful man to me and to others. No matter if it was a waitress at a restaurant or the president of a major firm he treated everyone as an equal. One of my most special memories of him are flying with him and watching the sunset a couple times the same day. We always enjoyed a great time talking about life while golfitanf him sharing words of wisdom. You will be greatly missed Uncle T.

Tom will truly be missed. He sold me his first Husky and I fly it as often as possible. It was always fun to be out and have Tom come up on the radio and check in with how everything was going. I will truly miss him and his friendship.
