Verna Wentzel Obituary

Verna Wentzel 88, of Appleton, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at The Heritage of Appleton on Monday, November 14, 2016. Verna was born on March 4, 1928 in Bowler, WI. She graduated from Bowler High School in 1946. Verna eventually moved to Appleton, where she met her husband Glenn Wentzel. They married August 25, 1951. Verna worked at Western Condensing, Stokely Van Camp, Peabody Manor, and retired from Appleton Extended Care. Verna lived for the moments spent with her grandchildren, loved every memory made with her best friend Sandy, never met a glass of wine she didn't like, and found great joy in spoiling her loved ones (especially through our stomachs!) Verna was strong in her faith and was a longtime member of St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton.

She is survived by her children: Steve (Diane) Wentzel, Sandy (John) Daley, Sara Wentzel and Curt (Rose) Wentzel. Verna is also survived by her grandchildren: Lisa Mangi, Sarah Daley, Maggie Wentzel, Bob Wentzel, Jon Daley, Amber Wentzel, Hilary Wentzel, Maryrose Wentzel and Daniel Wentzel. In addition to her grandchildren, she is also survived by 7 beautiful great-grandchildren.

Verna was preceded in death by: her husband Glenn, her parents: Otto and Angelica Kowalske, and her siblings: Adeline Marten, Bernard Kowalske, Herbert Konrad, Martin Kowalske, Cora Baganz and Adin Kowalske.

A memorial service for Verna will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00. The Wentzel family wishes to thank the 3rd Floor staff at ThedaCare Medical Center of Appleton for their excellent care. We would especially like to thank the caregivers from The Heritage Hospice Residence for their loving care, their ongoing support, and the comfort they've provided our family during this difficult time.

We will always cherish our memories of Verna. She could carry on conversations as long as you had time (and then some), and she was as sweet as the sugar cookies she baked. God Bless you Verna, and our prayers for your family.

I sure got lucky when my sister married Curt...Verna came with as a bonus! Actually, I inherited the whole Wentzel family. What a wonderful group of people! I will dearly miss Verna, and her cookies. I find comfort in knowing she is where she wanted to be. I will be keeping Verna and the rest of her family in my thoughts and prayers. Tonight, I will be toasting a glass of wine in her honor, maybe even two. I think she will like that. God Bless Us All.
