Vernon Conradt Obituary

Conradt, Vernon

Vernon W Conradt, age 90 passed away peacefully on October 15 with his loving wife and family at his side. He was born May 11, 1926, the son of the late Martin Conradt and Elsie Prochnow. He was baptized June 27, 1926 at First Lutheran Church in Shiocton. Vernon grew up on a farm in the town of Bovina and graduated from Shiocton High School. In high school, boxing was his passion with the designation of "Teams Fightingest Fighter" his Senior year. He loved watching and listening to the Packers, Brewers and Badgers throughout his years and even installed a radio on his tractor just to listen to the ballgames. Vern was a person that all friends and neighbors could always count on.

It was at confirmation class in April of 1939, Vern met the love of his life, Evelyn Zimmerman. She looked at him and he turned "beet red"!!. It was at Vern's brother's wedding, where he and Evelyn were attendants, that they began dating and married, March 2, 1946. Together they shared a happy life of over 70 years.

Vernon and Evelyn worked closely together for over 57 years on their family farm in the town of Liberty. They began as dairy farmers, later raised hogs and cash cropped. Vernon worked tireless hours with Evelyn supporting him and their family. He and his good friend Ralph Gehring and their wives started G-Con feeds. Their partnership lasted for a number of years and their friendship lasted forever. Vern then worked in agribusiness at Terra International until his retirement.

Vern was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Shiocton, faithfully plowing the snow in the parking lot over the winter months for many years. He was also the Senior Deacon and served on many committees throughout his time at Messiah.

He served on the town board for the town of Liberty for many years.

He loved to hunt and fish—most of the time legally in his older years!! He and Evelyn spent their retirement years fishing on Shawano Lake, dancing with friends, playing cards in several different card clubs, bowling, cross country skiing and traveling by car throughout the US. It was seldom that there wasn't at least one Labrador Retriever by his side.

Vern and Evelyn moved to the village of Shiocton after selling their farm. Over the past five years, due to ill health, Vern resided at Brewster Village where he was cared for by the most caring and compassionate staff.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years Evelyn Conradt; Sharon (Alan) Hanks, Shiocton and their children Jodi (Craig) Clifford, Menasha, Jeff (Wendy) Hanks , Shiocton and Jessica (Jesse) Collar, Hortonville; Susie (David )Gast, Manawa, and their children Wendy (Korey)Krueger, Appleton, Michelle (Joel)Northey, Appleton and Jeremy (Tori) Gast Manawa; Sheila (Steve) Banda, Neenah, and their children Jen(Brian) Gutekunst, Green Bay, Stephanie (Todd) Meadows , Somerset KY, Tera Banda Neenah, Leah (Brandon) Kirkland Neenah, Ali (Tristan) Thomas, Raleigh NC and Madison Banda, Neenah; Mark (Laurie) Conradt Oshkosh and their children Alex, Portland OR, Ian, Oshkosh and Emily, Oshkosh and Agnes Luk and her husband Denney Leung, Signapore. Agnes was Vern and Evie's "adopted" daughter who lived with them during part of her senior year in High School and has kept in touch with their family for many years.

They are further survived by 26 great grandchildren, Camron and Jack Rataczak, Abbie, Katie and Maggie Hanks, Jacob and Beau Collar, Tony and Lydia Krueger, Clare Northey, Alaina and Conner Gast, Marley, Joie, Michael and Kacey Gutekunst, Sydnee, Braedon, Averi and Kendyl Meadows, Adler, Delaney and Ophelia Kirkland, Jaelynn Day and Emersyn Banda, and Violet Thomas as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding him in death are his parents Martin, Elsie and Emily Conradt, his mother in law Anna Roos and her husbands Henry Zimmerman and Herman Roos, brothers Harold and Orville, sisters in law May Glasnap, Alice Conradt, brother in law Bill Bast, Arnold and Ervin Zimmerman and step brother in law and sister in law, Carl and Millie Ruppert.

The family would like to thank their friends and family who were faithful visitors to Vernie while at Brewster as well as Dr. Schultz and the caring, wonderful staff on Harmony. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

To the entire Vernon Conradt Family....
So very sorry to hear about Vernon and I never called him that! But... did not know how he spelled Vernie or Verny? Whichever way, I know he will be missed tremendously by all of you. I just remember his great smile and he was always smiling! AND so handsome. It's hard to lose someone you love, but we will all be in a better place one day as he is now...TOGETHER! Love to all of you...Nancy Johnson-Ullsperger
