Violet Zitzelsberger Obituary

Zitzelsberger, Violet

Violet (Raabe) Zitzelsberger, 87, of Chilton, formerly of Stockbridge, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Atrium Post Acute Care of Chilton surrounded by her family. Violet was born August 15, 1928 in the Town of Rhine, daughter of the late William & Anita (Diefenthaler) Raabe.

On April 7, 1948 Violet married Leo Zitzelsberger at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on November 18, 2011. She was employed at Leverenz Shoe Company, Northland Turkey Farm, and Larsen Cleaners. Above all other things, Violet devoted much of her life to her family, especially raising her children. Violet and Leo enjoyed polka dancing at the Cinderella Ballroom and going out for their Friday fish lunch. In her free time, Violet enjoyed playing cards with her lady friends, collecting recipes, making her famous peanut butter bars, crocheting afghans, playing marbles, and having breakfast at McDonalds. Most of the hand made woven items created by Violet were given to others, even when they got smaller over the years. She will certainly be remembered as a three time cancer survivor and as a sweet and kind lady, with a quick wit and great sense of humor, who took life as it came to her, enjoying each and every moment God granted her.

Survivors include her son, Robert (Judy) Zitzelsberger; 5 daughters, Mary (Dennis) Halbach, Pat (Brian) Hildebrandt, Betty (Scott) Goerl, Shirley (Jon) VanDeraa, and Carol Zitzelsberger; two sisters, Betty Nett and Virginia (Pat) Amel; a brother-in-law, Gib (Shirley) Zitzelsberger; two sisters-in-law, Agnes and Mavis Zitzelsberger; 12 grandchildren, Shelly (Todd) Ludwig, Jenny (Jeff) Funk, Mike (Lisa) Zitzelsberger, Pam (Ray) Stevens, Chris (Fiancé, Brian Muehlbauer) Halbach, Joe (Kim) Boehnlein, Amy (Fiancé, Sam McDaniel) Boehnlein, Paul (Terri) Mueller, Brian (Eberlee) Mueller, Kelly (Josh) Denzel, Jesse Goerl, and Christie (Bill) Gast; 16 great-grandchildren including one born this week who wasn't able to meet great-grandma and one on the way; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband Leo, Violet was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Mary Zitzelsberger; and ten brothers-in-law, Junior Nett, Paul Schaefer, Norb Zitzelsberger, Lester Zitzelsberger, Lawrence (Viola) Zitzelsberger, Adolf (Marion) Zitzelsberger, Alex (Libby) Zitzelsberger, Tony (Ceil) Zitzelsberger, Louie (Margaret) Zitzelsberger, Joe (Adeline) Zitzelsberger.

Funeral Services will be at 3:00pm on Monday, April 18, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church (120 Davis Street) in Stockbridge with the Rev. Michael Betley and Deacon Steve Vande Hey. Burial will be in the parish cemetery next to her great love, Leo, so they can lay side by side to watch the sunset over Lake Winnebago "for infinity". Friends may call at Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main Street) in Chilton from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Sunday, April 17, 2016 and on Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church from 2:00pm to 2:45pm. A parish vigil service will take place on Sunday evening at the close of the visitation.

A memorial fund has been established in the name of Violet Zitzelsberger.

Violet's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at Atrium Post Acute Care in Chilton for the care and compassion shown to her.

There are days be it only a moment in time that I think to myself I want to call you
& share something or ask you a question or find out how you cook something and I cant . Those days are hard because you usually had something to add to my story or tried to answer my question but you almost always could answer how to cook something for sure ~ I could always count on you for that. I try to share a joke but no one told them as well as you and I try to answer most questions as did you if someone calls me with questions especially my daughter Christie as well as you did. I think you would be proud of me and my cooking especially my German potato salad recipe from you ~ I remember asking you for it the first time and you couldnt give me exact proportions and then you eventually did give me measurements and now I too dont follow the recipe ! I am trying to carry on those little bits of your personality for my daughter & my grandkids to tell a story about someday or answer someones question or share something or to be able to make your German potato salad ! I love you Mom ~ Rest In Peace Shirley
