Arnie Berggren Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Arnold "Arnie" Lee Berggren, aged 74, from Idaho Falls, who left us on March 9, 2025.

Arnie was born on January 20, 1951, to David A. Berggren and Patricia Louise Utterbeck Berggren in Los Angeles, California. Arnie embodied the spirit of a true "California boy," with a profound love for the beach and ocean that defined his early years. Shortly after graduation, Arnie worked in the construction industry where he began to form the skill's that would later lead to his longer-term career aspirations.

In 1978, Arnie married Deborah E. Burkett. They later divorced. After that chapter of his life, Arnie made the move to Idaho Falls, a decision that would shape his future in unexpected ways. Exploring various industries, Arnie finally discovered his true calling as a master carpenter at Utterbeck Construction. Under the guidance of his beloved uncle, "Bob," and family, Arnie honed his craftsmanship, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who had the pleasure of witnessing his dedication and skill. The lasting relationships formed were something he so appreciated and cherished throughout.

Fast forward to 1986, when Arnie's life took a beautiful turn. He met the love of his life, De Haley, and their connection was nothing short of magical. By 1991, De became his life partner, and the two of them embarked on an incredible journey together, one that spanned over four decades. Their bond was inseparable, a testament to the profound love they shared. Throughout their time together, they saw their family grow, welcoming eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren into their lives. The two of them were inseparable! Arnie and De's close bond influenced the course of their lives in profound ways but the memories and love they shared will forever remain in our hearts.

Arnie was truly a person of diverse interests, indulging in surfing, fishing, hunting, boats, softball, billiards, and darts. However, one of his greatest loves was undoubtedly Nascar. Arnie's passion for Nascar was truly infectious, and over the years, it swept the entire family into the exhilarating world of racing. It became a common sight to see Arnie and De heading off to a Nascar event without a second thought. This shared enthusiasm not only brought them closer together but also evolved into a cherished yearly tradition for many of us in the family. As we remember Arnie, let's celebrate the joy and excitement he brought into our lives and let's reminisce when we asked how things were doing and he always replied, "just taking it day by day!" Love you greatly!

Arnie is survived by his step-sons Richard Dean (Lorna) Colvin of Idaho Falls, ID; Nickolas (Krista) Dee Haley of Boise, ID; Justin Lee (Lynleigh) Colvin of Rigby, ID; 11 grandchildren, Thomas Colvin, Heather Howe, Deidre Colvin, Kayla Haley-Agbeko (Gideon), Mason Haley, Jacob Haley, Mckenzie Haley, Peyton Colvin, Sidonah Colvin, Jaedrick Colvin; four great grandchildren, Aiden, Levi, Dyken, and Amayah; and favorite cousin Danny Utterbeck (Tim).

He was preceded in death by his parents David and Patricia; his loving wife DaLores "De" Haley-Berggren; and beloved brother Brian K. Berggren.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29th, 2025, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road.
